The Yorkshire Branch Road

I usually try and catch a bit of local radio in the morning for the traffic reports but it's always the same five roads congested. Sometimes when they say it's a fuggin nightmare it's not actually that bad.

Radio 2 and the likes never cover anything north of Watford.

See if I can guess which five...

The A1 past the angel

A1231/A19 nissan factory

Sure that was traffic news? That's advice I'd give anyone thinking about having a drink in Heaton!

They never mention the bloody Tyne Tunnel these days as the second tunnel has only added to the congestion and unreliability.

Our local traffic news tends to be that it's fine everywhere apart from a big town 20 miles away and some temporary lights on one of the A roads.

Apart from the monthly road closure after an accident,  this month it was the A49 shut both ways for 5 hours due to spilt beer.

As an inmate of Halifax I have little choice but to use the m62 whenever I go anywhere.

There have been some improvements with the smart motorway work but until they get further up to Mancs with it it'll continue to be a bottleneck. Even then as the M62 becomes the M60 Manchester ring road traffic is always heavy. I think the whole point of it (smart mways) is to keep traffic moving at a slower speeds rather than the complete stops for no apparent reason which where a prevalent feature of the road.

I've found on the worst days of traffic my tom tom app on the phone will take me around Manchester the other way to keep moving and miss the Trafford centre traffic etc.

I do like coming back over at night and seeing the road snake through the hills though, can't think why anyone would want to live in Stott's Farm - which hasn't even got double glazing - and generally I'm happy that I can get fairly quickly past Manchester without actually having to stop (much).

Mother decided she wanted to do sandwiches and a flask in the car at the coast on christmas day, traffic was light but not deserted though I can only recall passing two commercial vehicles, a tanker and a juggernaught. BMW and OWDI drivers were still acting like utter twats though cutting far too close despite heavy rain.

All in all not a bad trip to Arnside then Cosby to see A Gormless mans naked on the beach (which I think is why she wanted to go!) get soaked, pick up the dogs doings in a different county and back home in time for tea.

Gawd Bless us M62 and everyone!

I agree, but local radio traffic news is worth using if just for the lols.

"Barry from Springwell has just rung in to tell us that a wagon full of whippets and prize leeks has spilled its load on the old Durham road near the Three Tuns, so if you weren't already avoiding Deckham it's probably a good idea right now."

Round here the local traffic news seems to be mostly made up and I suspect is rung in by listeners to expose the fact that the reporter doesn't actually know anything about the area. "The High Street in Milton Keynes is closed". Er, you what? There's no such road.

Agreed, fast way out of Lincoln is needed.
