406 1.9 TDs are gutless

You say that but there's a lot of fiddling possible with the Bosch pump on a 1.9.

Very good, I had a 406 years ago and it bit me on the arse massively, but I still like them.

You can put a Manual Bosch pump on these. One off an early 605 or XM although when I converted one of a Czech guy he said that a 1.9 pump can be made to work as well.He got a 605 pump from Czech republic but forgot to get the injector pipes as instructed which meant a lot of bending of the Lucas ones as the pipe order is different between the two types of pump as well as the pumps being physically different.

That looks far too competent. Well bought, GLWTS as I think you'll be bored by the new year.

Liking the station architecture as well as the epic. Those pumps aren't as bad as some say, one survived the fdb vegtest through -18C winter of 2010.

That's a lot of miles. Shows how French engineering can last.  Well bought.

Winter is coming.

As the gaffer tape door trim repairs that the former owner had in place were beginning to fail, I decided to break out the (correct colour) big guns out.

I had planned to silly seal the gap first but the unopened tube of gunk has set in situ.  The tube just peeled away around the hunk of hard silicone.  Load of shite.

On to the work at hand.

Step one:  remove previous bodge.

Step two: clean and dry area to be fixed.

Step three: apply sections of overlapping tape until satisfied.

Cap the end off with a reach around section.

Looks alright from a distance:

The other side was a bit worse:

Trimmed it up off the glass front and back and I recon that'll do.

Just need a downpour to test it now.

Also tried to pikey fix the key plipper.

Pun new batteries in, used the head off a pin as a makeshift button and applied lashings of tape.

It now works "intermitently" unlocking, but wont lock.

Slight improvement.

Got a money shot which was lacking and noticed that there was a bulb out.

These old cars are nowt but expenditure, etc.

SCRAP IT.

Nice easy headlight bulb change on these WilsonWilson. Did mine the other day. None of this front bumper removal nonsense you get on some moderns.

Yeah, I'm gonna pop some nightbrakers if the rain ever stops.  Just coz I have them lying around. For the cheaps.

The 406 is modern!

Posted

I think its modern.  Everything about it seems quite modern to me.  Having had a 305, a 309 and a 405 on the way to a 406 I can say that the 406 seems far removed from all but the 405.  I know it doesnt have start-stop technology or automatic headlights but its still a quiet, reliable and comfortable modern car.

Probably doesnt really belong on Autoshite, but I suppose it sneaks in the side door being a leggy and undesirable base model that carries on regardless.

They're a good looking car these. Peugeot where did it all go wrong?

Gaffa tape plus fibre glass resin = redneck carbon fibre.

106, 206, 306, 406....That was the peak for Peugeot. Everything after those models is dogshit.

Well the 406 has clocked up 800 miles under me and had served its purpose well.

I bougth it to move house, and its done its job effortlessly and without breaking a sweat.  Even packed to the rafters it still boosts past all the slow pokes.

Now that I'm almost fully shifted, and with some other diesel estate flavoured shite incoming imminently, I have decided to offer the Pug for Roffle.

In short:

406 2.1 TD  XUD11.  Lucas Pompe.  Two keepers.  Over quarter of a million miles.

Stamped service history up to 257 thousand miles.  Has been mechanically cared for from day one.

Cosmetically, its a bit scruffy.

CL, EW, PAS, ESR.

It has a drop down immobiliser keypad bullshit, which has happily been stripped out years ago, leaving only the drop down key pad to laugh at/ignore.

BAD BITS:  Key plipper doesnt work.  No code for radio. Drivers lock is a huffy.  Works 70% of the time.  Passenger door lock operates fine.  CL works off both.

I got 567 miles out of the last tank, on all local driving.

Mot is due 23/02/16.

Please check the MOT history.  The car has never been a bother.

Battery is still under warranty.
