Any Scorpios left?  Or has TG, the short oval and the export trade seen to them?

Mazda Montrose?

Datsun Micra?

Datsun Micra you say?

This one below is still about, although the rot round the rear end suggests that a stiff breeze could cause it to collapse.

127 fronted Fiorinos must be down to single figures by now, I certainly haven't seen any in the UK.

I've got two, and I'm driving one of them.

There was a Sierra 2.3 diesel near me until recently. They used to get broke up either for the engine for export or for the rear axle which besides being heavy duty had favourable ratios. Odds enough at the end of Sierra production they had a few 2.3 engines left so there are one or two that are J-K plate with the 2.3 instead of the 1.8td.

Perhaps not totally extinct, but few enough are around that finding one for sale is a real challenge.

Mitsubishi Tredia

Plymouth Cricket

There are two Crickets around here. One in beige, the other in chalky blue. Both were in regular use until a couple years ago.

What about those Citroen BX van things?

Talking of odd vans, wasn't there a commercial version of the Sierra that was only available in Ireland or something?

Posted

Yeah some red ex-chicken coup Sierra.

Seen a couple of BX vans in Ireland a few years back too.

Ireland has loads of odd van versions of everyday cars. Was a bit of tax dodge back in the day - My gf's daughter drives a 2011 Opel Astra "van"

Yes it was an estate with tin back window's and a flat floor in the back, the guy who signed up on here had 2 of them, they did appear on ebay but I don't know what happened to them after that

A wagon, and she made it a whole decade! Died in the same year the pic was taken, yet doesn't look bad?

Could be sat in a lock up somewhere. I'd like to hope.

Wow, that's one quality thread. Further proof that the Scottush climate is ideal for ruining 1980's motors at a rate of knots. Kudos to the OP for having the forethought to snap a load of dailies at the time. I miss mismatched panels, tidemarks and obvious ongoing rust repairs.

Its just a facelift Mitsubishi Sigma wagon, why was it reg'd as a Lonsdale?

Because it was a Lonsdale.

Why was the facelifted Vauxhall Astra registered as a Daewoo Nexia? Because it was a Daewoo Nexia innit.

It was purely a ploy by Mitsubishi to get around the Import restrictions placed upon Japanese cars imported back in the 80s. As the Lonsdale was nailed together by our good old colonial cousins in Australia, the ploy was to flood the UK with extra antipodean Mitsubishi Galant Lonsdale loveliness!!...Launched at the 1982 Motorshow....along with the Dacia Denim...and Umm Transcat.
