Brings the shite count to a nice round four for the new year.

Hereford pick-up for preference, but any of BMC's 50s offerings  are nice (except horrible A35 thing)

It says "Felica Fun" but each and every one of those people in the picture look as miserable as sin.

I'd bloody love one of those canopy things for the rear. I think I might have seen one with two vertical doors too.

Mine may be available soon, not sure how easy it would be to get it over to Dublin though.

The people in the Fun look miserable because each of them has inadvertently leaned against some part of the bodywork only for it to crumble into a pile of rust!

Didn't somebody on here have one of those five-door vans? They look really smart in a miserable sort of way. I actually think Favorits look pretty sharp, I'd deffo touch one given the chance

That's fair enough, cos the Felicia I had was NO FUN AT ALL.

The Favorit that preceded it was great though. I bought it from a scrapyard in Bradford with post damage to the front, fixed it with cheap second-hand bits and ran it for five years before dumping it a shed for 12 months while I went to live in NZ. Came back, stuck a battery on it, took it for an MOT and got another 2 years out of the heap before it finally dissolved. It was largely trouble free, save for two occurrences of HGF; the first time I just wanged another head gasket in (eight quid) and it lasted another 10000 miles before I had to have the head skimmed and fixed it properly.  Yes, I liked Skodas before VW got in on the act.

Ah, that kind of pick up, I was about to say it's not much love but it will fill a pram.

I'd love to make you an offer on it but getting it across the water would probably cost more then the canopy itself.

I found my Favorit to be a thoroughly pleasant way of pootling around - mind you, that was a top of the range GLXi, with a massive 68bhp.

I was in Slovakia in the mid '90s and I seem to recall the Favorit pickup was know as the Forum over there - which here was the name for the base model hatch with the skull-cracking placca headrests (but four of them nonetheless).

there was at one point a mix of commercials in the company car fleet at work, most were freelanders, but there was a disco 3 van, and a handful of nissan nivara's and mitsu warrior? pick-ups, and one of those yellow skodas...

one guy took the skoda home one weekend cos someone else was using his nissan, and he refused to give the skoda back!

no, seriously, he did.

he kept the skoda and binned the nissan off into the pool fleet.

he found that the skoda actually was a really pleasant wee thing, much easier to live with and drive compared to the nissan, and he didn't need to worry about someone stealing the skoda, i mean, what sicko would do that? and he lived on the hardwick estate in stockton....

I'd forgotten all about those weird 5-door vans. Weren't they called Favorit Foreman or something?

Posted

Yup. I have one; currently being recommissioned for use next Spring.

I'd love a Favorit van. Oddly enough I don't think they were sold or even converted here in Ireland when current, when just about anything could be and was. Heck, you could even get a Mk1 Ibiza van here in the 90s.

I have a Peugeot 405 van at the minute but for various reasons I have to park it for a while and the Skoda is its replacement, but whatever happens I think I'm going to hold onto the Skoda. I can't wait to get it home

I wish there was a cool story behind it but in fact its just a regular 405 estate. Physically it isn't a van but it is on paper because someone knew someone in the local Licencing office 25 years ago. I won't get into that just now but there were benefits to doing things like this before they closed the loophole a few years back.

Its been a farm hack for the last 20 years in the family

The Pick Up's were the Foreman and Foreman II, the vans were the Freeway (Hatch) and Freeway Plus (Estate).

Looks to be an early 1, and quite tidy for it's age

I'll be losing the spots to begin with it. I fitted a radio that I had lying around but noted that there are no speakers to be found anywhere inside unless I am hilariously missing them. In any case someone fitted two rubbish ones, not even mounted anywhere behind the back seats. The starter is stuck too so I'll address it on the weekend and take it from there. I've been asked am I going to have it resprayed and the answer is most probably no. It'll only be ruined again shortly afterwards

Used to see quite a number of Fav p/ups knocking around but not now. I reckon in the same way as the original VW Caddy went 10 years or so ago, they are being pineappled etc by dubbers who can't afford the latter. Shame, I like 'em.
