A little bit of shuffling today as the 205 was blocking the doorway, not anymore.

 

 

It looks massive outside next to the tiny cottages.

So the drivers door window doesn't have a channel on the bottom of it so I am looking for one of those if anyone has one, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

I looked at the price then I looked again at the price and it still said £46.80.

Started on the Octavia today but I only had a very brief amount of time.

 

Up in the air and the wheels off.

The right rear caliper is sticking and I went to investigate that first.

With the wheel off the disc wobbled about on the hub as the securing screw had snapped off, this is a pet hate especially when trying to get the wheel back on lining up the holes so out with the drill and tap.

 

 

A lot of suspension components are covered in surface rust but it is quite solid.

One rear spring is broken and the front seem to be fine.

 

Caliper freeing off or replacement of to be decided at the next visit.

 

Told you it was a brief visit.

I just put a screwdriver through the wheel and the disc and wobble it about until all the holes line up.

The driveshafts for the 205 arrived, the short one was the problem so jacked up ready and out with the drain plug.

 

 

I managed to catch all of it.

 

 

I couldn't get the bottom ball joint out of the hub so I had to remove the bottom arm, after I did that it just fell on the floor. That took half an hour of messing about.

 

 

New driveshaft fitted.

 

 

The wheel trims have a great little design that holds them on, the little wires inside the hole.

 

 

Extra shoulder on the bolt for the wheel trim.

 

 

The oil that came out was a bit manky so I will pick up two litres for it for next visit.

Ah, I couldn't remember if I'd changed the oil on the 205 or not. That confirms I hadn't. Soz.

I presume the window rail doofer wotsit you need is a different size on 3 doors and 5 doors?

I've just seen a 5 door 205 in Deatons scrapyard in Staveley, it's mostly complete.

I'm sure they'd post a window runner - 01246 474252, they're open tomorrow.

 

If they won't take it off and post it I might be able to but it'd have to be next week or something

Some university visits are happening this week but today was local so some work got done after I was told to go away.

 

 

I need to do an engine service and the easy way to get the right filter is get the same one.

 

 

The gearbox was refilled, 2 litres went in up to the fill level and only 1.2 litres came out. I took it for a quick test drive and it is no longer knocking while driving

 

 

 

 

 

After the test drive it was spotting the ground, it is coolant from under the foil pipe.

 

 

This is the joint.

 

 

And the leak.

 

 

I am guessing it is the thermostat housing there so a new thermostat may just get ordered up for when I investigate.

 

 

Not bad considering it was going to be just wandering around university today.

Oh we went on a lovely romantic drive to tesco in the 205 at shitefest 18! Such a lovely thing! I would have asked for a drive but it started making a funny noise which you've probably just fixed so we made a fag and carried on at a slightly lower speed to be safe

So things have been happening here. 

 

First off Father Jack left with a man who is far more knowledgeable and capable with Land Rovers that I am. 

 

 

I have been busy since June teaching my youngest to drive and on Friday it was decided that I had done ok.

 

 

Today I took a friends Toyota Yaris for MOT. It passed with no advisories as expected but underneath the thin end of the wedge has started. (62 place with under 8,000 miles, the tester looked at the miles and declared a pass then checked the car to confirm)

 

 

Time for some 205 time, after the window mechanism was silenced (glove with tissue in to stop the mechanism rattling off the glass as I haven't got round to chasing up the tip from Cobblers yet) it was time to sort the radio as it had slipped back into the dash.

 

 

 

 

 

Then it was time to fit the springs to the rear of the Octavia.

 

That doesn't look the same.

 

 

An empty space but you can see a shiny caliper.

 

 

To get the handbrake cables off the calipers this needs messed with.

 

 

The other side also done.

 

 

 

 

So I need to bleed the Octavia and get the correct spring then I can hopefully get an MOT test booked.

I went to the workshop today to bleed the brakes on the Octavia, finding out I had two almost empty bottles of brake fluid caused me to change direction

 

 

I did a little on the 205.

 

Thought I should check the state of the cambelt. 

 

 

I shall add that to the to do list then.

 

 

Next to sort out the leak at the thermostat housing.

The old one had been fitted with a torn seal and silicone. The new one had the ring seal around it so it now appears to seal fine.

 

 

As it was up to temperature I dropped the oil and changed the filter. Took ages to get 3 litres back in and I will let it settle and top up as necessary next time.

 

 

 

 

I will also get some more brake fluid!

So after the last thrilling* update of the light lenses being fitted to Fren I had a response to the Gumtree advert that had been up for a couple of days.

 

It had words that had all the letters in so I was off to a good start. A time (6:30) was arranged for a viewing. 

Someone came at 6:30 had a look at the car, took it for a brief test drive, pointed out a couple of issues and haggled a bit.

A price was agreed, paperwork done and this happened.

This enabled the tidy* workshop to have one less car in it.

I have no doubt that issues will become apparent, the first of which is the heater doesn't heat. I don't know if it did before but I shall have a look at some point soon ish.

Aye, the heater was always roasty toasty for me. I drive every car (especially those without a temp guage) with the heater on and the window down, so I would have noticed.

Reply yes, what time would suit (add rough directions including how to get around the clusterfuck of water main works still going on after 5 weeks)

Get told 6:30.

Reply see you then.

6:30 doorbell goes and dogs go mental.

Show person the car 

Get taken on a brief test drive

Get told there is a slight blow from the exhaust and no cambelt history

Agree and invite offers

Get told the price you had in your head straight off

Chance a counter with £25 more

Get agreement and shake hands.

Invite daughter to get all her shit out of the car while paperwork and monies is done

Driving the Jag back, I did manage to forget the right turn, ended up drive around the roadworks (wasn't clear that I wasn't supposed to) and end up at the end of the road to turn out. Except I couldn't as there was cones in the way. Was very tempted just drive over them/move them out of the way and carry on.
