Pet hate automotive terms...................

The French seem to copy all that MK1/2/3/4 etc rubbish - only substitute Phase as in 'Phase 3' 306, Clio etc.

I'm sure Ford itself classifies the mark 4 as a mark 3 facelift. The spotters fact is the last mark 6's were built to S-type standards as a dry run for the Jaguar build programme. Heres the last mark 6 - ive been in it

*PEDANT MODE*Surely you mean Jaguar X type?

'Good runner' is one that I find rather enoying, and why can't people just be honest when advertising a motor? I still shudder with rage when recalling the 'very clean' BMW E36 I drove all the way from Plymouth to Bracknell to look at a few years ago, the reality was a car that looked like it had been polished with a brillo pad, except around the rear wheel arches which were rotting nicely

I hate it when people omit the mileage from adverts, 99% of the time because it's high - you then ask them the mileage and they reply along the lines of '189k, which is nothing for these cars' or 'just run in at 212k' etc.I am not opposed to high mileage at all, but not including it in the advert is the seller showing a lack of confidence in the vehicle. You could argue that they didnt want to put off potential buyers, but there cant be that many people who will go and view + buy a car without wanting to know the mileage, regardless as to whether the has FSH or whatever...Sorry I know that's not a motoring 'term'.

There's a current advert for a Eurobox on local radio in Yorkshire.....Seems they're making a big thing of the features............ABS (Legal requirement to fit these days) Airbag......(same thing) rear wash wipe.......right...............You'll be telling me next that you get a spare wheel and jack next........pillocks in marketing need a kick.

...except that a big % of new cars come without either

A big percentage of the old shite I buy come with neither!(Although to be fair to the vendors, they are probably the most valuable part!)

"Robin Reliant" (Reliant Robin)

That one really riles me! Why do people say that?....is it Del Boy's fault?
I always blamed that one on Jasper Carrott in the 80s.I hate 'Beemer' for BMW. It's just SO Mike Brewer.....

Oh, and people who put Taxed & Tested without giving any dates (usually because it has a month on each).

I've decided I no longer like the term 'unmolested', not sure quite how it came to be in such widespread use but probably something to do with Quentin Willson.

'Rare Model' when it quite obviously isn't

General ignorance of vehicular parts and mangling of the English language combine to make me very angry. 'New Seals' / 'rusty seals' - windscreen? fur seals? Oh you mean the SILLS.'Tax excempt' - grr! universally mis-spelled'needs breaks' - Something to do with kit-kats?'Braking for parts' - Brake for children, zebra crossings and stationary traffic.'Spears or Repairs' - Shows seller to be knuckle-dragger from the Neander ValleyI could go on.... but my blood pressure is on the up already.

Putting mis-spelled terms like this into ebay can however throw up some absolute bargains. I got a Very clean 16v Golf interior for £5 this way.

I'm watching a very cheap set of C4 'winscrean wippers' listed as 'door mirrors' using this exact method.

I heard about that search facility for mis-spelled or incorrectly listed items - how do you do it?
