Buying unknown quantity car after unknown quantity car doesn't work, stick with one car!

Has Ms Peel hijacked your account?

I've always liked the shape of the Focus Saloon. I swore I would never have another Ford after my disastrous Escort, but if I did it would be one of these.

Valid point right there but due to not being able to be without transport I'm left stuck if a car is off the road.

I know, I've been there. Hope the Focus works out for you, if it needs work not exceeding its value to you get it done.

I think I'll try to keep this. The only other car I gelled with was the vectra due to it being auto but that snapped cambelt.

When was the belt last done on the Focus Bub? Dont these Zetec engines go about 100k between belt changes?

I'm surprised about lack of rear electric windows and no trip computer - I thought all ghias came with them. I couldn't stand the look of any Focus when new, but like them all now. A 1.8tdci 115 Ghia hatch would be my choice, if not then an estate ST as mentioned earlier.

Focus Mk1 saloons (with the indicators in the bumpers) came in CL and Ghia flavour, the Mk1.5 (with the indicators in the headlights) came in LX and Ghia flavour. The trip computer and rear electric windows were optional extras and quite a few of them came without them.

Not sure. Got nothing in writing but the previous owner had it for a year and the old dear before her said it was done around 65k but no proof. Only done 9 k since mot in 2012 and only got 88 on clock now. I plan on getting it done asap but all down to cost. I'd do it myself but I doubt my dodgy left side would tolerate being leant over for an hour or 3!

As for electric windows in the rear all 2.0 I've seem had them fitted and most 1.8 petrol in seen for sale. My friends old diesel estate didn't though, the x plate saloon 1.6 I know of has them but the x plate hatch doesn't.

Our TDCi ghia estate has electric windows in the back and the computer. Does yours have the climate control as opposed to just air con?

I know not everybody likes the focus but it was miles better than the escort. To be fair I would sooner have one of these than a K series Rover.

Private plate tick.

Saloon Focus tick.

Plastic wood tick

WINNAR tick.

Really like these, seem to be rare in the saloon.

No just air con but I'm led to believe the facelift models tend to have climate control as well as all the extras.

Thanks shuma, I am growing to like the private plate, hides it's age ok being a decent ok car

Quick question for knowledgeable folk. It's using oil. No leaks nor smoke though. Zetec se 1.6 engine with 88 thou on clock. Any ideas?

Posted

Zetec can use oil. Unless you having to put lots in I would'nt worry.

Be mindful - dont use 10/40 oil in an attempt to lower oil consumption. The hydraulic lifters will not like it.

I would relax about the belt for now, don't break the bank trying to replace a belt which is most probably perfectly fine. We have just seen the original belt come off andrews 13 year old A3 in perfectly good nick, and my 2000 R75 is still on the original belts. So was the 2001 R75 car before that, and guess what? The original belt came off in good nick, the new owner wished he had never bothered and left it alone.

Why don't you try and contact the old dear and find out which garage serviced it around 65k? I am sure they wont mind sticking the registration onto their system and bringing up any previous invoices.

Yup, great purchase there Bub - my new wheels are pleasing me greatly too.  Double win for the East Midlands boys!

I'll try and trace history through dvla. Old dears husband died that's why she sold car so bit dubious about asking her! Only done 9 thou in 3 year

Nice car that, should do you a good turn.

As Bren says these engines routinely use a bit of oil so don't worry. If the consumption suddenly increases hugely then you've got an issue.

I've had my 1.6 zetec for 3 years now and, barring one breakdown, it's been rock solid. Its nice to drive and parts for it are pennies. Naturally I'm now looking to change it...

This drives lovely. So smooth on gearchanges too. Bit lethargic off the lights but to be expected for a 1.6 auto.
