Peugeot 405 number 7 inc. meagre collection thread

Here we go.

Doing my daily internet search of 405 2.0 automatics produced this nice surprise last week:

Wow,

405 2.0 Auto - check

Favourite colour Silver - check

Cruise - check

Sunroof - check

Air con - check

Additionally it was the fairly rare STI spec, which has the front centre armrest, sports steering wheel and no airbag!  Barely concealing my excitement I ring the sensible sounding dealer and do a deal there and then.  Turns out he'd only posted it online just before I rang.  Phew.

So yesterday nice sister drops me off near London (on the way look what I saw at Sedgemoor Services)

Bright and early this morning I set off from brother's house to catch a bus from Uxbridge.  (Where I used to live 20 years ago).

Me: How much to Uxbridge train station please

Bus Driver: We don't take cash

Me: Pardon?

Bus Driver: We don't take cash any more

Me: How do I get to Uxbridge Station then?

Bus Driver: You have to have an oyster card or pre-booked fare

Things have certainly changed around here since I've been in the sticks.  Anyway, eventually got to Uxbridge:

Possibly even more of a shithole than it was when I was here.  And why are people, including bus drivers, so aggressive in London?

What a honey, I love it.  Drove beautifully back to Devon.  Previous owner for 17 years has obviously cherished it, loads of history.  Interior is mint, a few dings on the outside.

Have always wanted one in silver with a roof, how lucky am I?

More pics to follow no doubt when I've had a better look.

Always a good sign when it has a full complement of alloy wheel centre caps.

Posted

I was just gonna say that!

Looks lovely.  The saloons look much better with no spoiler.  Centre arm rest too!  I thought mine was top spec but that must have been an option?

Standard on STI and Executive.  Nice for the motorway!

STI was top of the original facelift line up wasn't it?

Posted

Yes it was, must have been the highest spec 405 ever built, no others ever had electric seats or variable wash wipe!

Swish! that looks superb. Quite well speccd and a -WK reg so possibly originally a Peugeot company vehicle.

+2 on those centre caps. Mine used to fall off at the drop of a hat so I ended up self tapping them into place!

Looks like the original front plate too so another clue to not having had a hard life.

My Mi16x4 has variable wash-wipe but not electric seats.

PL21, I used to live in Modbury years ago! Looks a beauty!

What a beauty, I'd love to try a 405 2.0 petrol.

Back when my sister had less facial hair than me - she had a 2.0i.

It was sublime. I drove it for a day and couldn't believe how comfortable it was. Dad, a staunch Ford man, disregarded anything French.

Turns out the joke was in him.

Not seen one that nice for years. Well bought.

Long term prev owner usually means the car is an utterly munted PoS & looks it or It's a real winner like this one.

Posted

Said it before, I do like a 405.

Apart from minis, the only car I've bought more than one of.

And I'd have another.

No more minis though.

Well bought. Any haggling?

I'm not the envy type to begin with, but why should I be envious on something I have myself a very nice example of?

Things to do:

Put some better tyres on

Heater fan is stuck on, hopefully it's the heater fascia unit which I have a good spare.  Have replaced this twice on other ones.

Air con not working, shame.  Regas if I'm really lucky

Not an awful lot more wrong I can find yet.

Unfortunately the previous owner has pulled off the pinstripe, I think it looks a bit naked without it.

Took some more pics today

Nice car - and a lovely photo location.

What's the score with the a/c on these, do they run R12 rather than R134a? Only one of mine (a "Hunter") had air which didn't hold a vacuum and later the a/c relay caught fire, so that was that.

Posted

I think they do run the earlier system but my a/c man never has any trouble with them.  Although he is getting mighty pissed off with all the current regs and what he can and can't do with his gear.  He's had to buy a new automated air con machine which is hooked up to a central system I think and can't stand the bloody thing.

Lovely car, always liked the shape. Well bought, not jeeellous !

That's an amazing bargain. The interior is just superb.

Tell me you're not a little jealous of the front armrest.

The only thing I'm jealous of is that he doesn't have to buy a new fucking numberplate for the next stupid Punch and Judy show, aka "The Great British MoT".

But like the Murphys, he's not bitter.

I'm just sick and tired of having to pay through the nose for my own oppression.

Shut up and sit down!

That will be £25 please.

Always happens when I buy another car, my current one gets the right hump...
