Looking for 195/60 R15 for the focii.

Midrange seem to be around £55 each.

Barums are good tyres, got a pair on my focus, made by continental.

The guy I use will supply fit and balance 17" Kingpin remoulds for £32...

The true cheapskate way is to buy a set of wheels that fit your car and are already shod with decent tyres - if you're patient enough you can grab some real bargains ! Last set I bought was just under £50 for four alloys with matching tyres. That's less than the fitting of four part worns would cost alone.

I have done this with mk3 astra alloys. Paid £70 for 4 tyres with 4 alloys. Tyres lasted 10K, but then I fitted new tyres to the old alloys having had them refurbished (I got a deal where I bought 4 tyres on line and the refurb included removing the old tyres and fitting the new ones, so I effectively saved £50 fitting) and then I sold the other alloys to a mate of a mate for £50

Just had the 190 shod with some Avon winters for 160 all in through tyreleader. Their prices fluctuate daily but if you're lucky or check daily they really do make part worn tyres a false economy.

That said I had a fun few months with a pair of aincient Fulda Y2000s on the back of a bmw e30

On another subject I saw a 58 plate Mondeo yesterday wearing a really grotty set of Conway remounds, I mean really?! They looked like off road tyres!

They must have got them part worn, they closed down in about 2007...

I stopped off in the local scrappy earlier and asked him about tyres. 13"&14" tyres are £10 each, 15"&16" tyres are £15 each. He can even fit them to your rims for a fiver a corner, unbalanced. You do have to go rummaging for them yourself though.

My local scappy asks the same but does have the balancing machine.

Good tyres pulled of the breakers are all lined up in rows so you can pick and choose.

Am always wary but it's proved a reasonable way to get a motor back on the road without spending out prior getting rid on the cheap

* unlike the X1/9 that had new Marangonis all round  ;-)

There's a really annoying radio advert at the minute that suggests National are doing BOGOF on Barums.

Are they doing BOGOF on every item they find on your car that is fucked?

I have partaken of used tyres for some time now, never had an issue. I do however find myself doing the Tyreleader thread check more frequently nowadays.
