1987 dodge renault campervan

my missus dad has laid up in corner of his yard a 4 litre 3 speed auto ex mini bus that was converted in to moble home, he using it for storage(trying to get it emptied), he not started it in a while but assures its not seized up, the plan is to get it running and get rid as hes getting too long in the tooth to use it, and needs the space for his kit cars and caravan, are these desirable or wanted?

I suspect that asking this question within the confines of this forum and also in the outside world would elicit two very different answers

 

My cousin had one of these some years back, a gown van type of thing (had been a mobile dole office) which had also been converted to a camper. It was reliable enough but dog slow.

 

Advertising it here might be an idea...

I shudder to think how slow one of those would be with a 3-speed auto in it.  I think an '87 would still have the old Perkins 4.236 engine - even more gutless than the later Phaser, but pretty much unburstable.  Get him to stick it on eBay as an "OMGBARNFIND RETRO SURF WAGON NOT SPLITSCREEN DUB RATLOOK" and it should make at least a million quid.*

Oh that is lovely, enough torque to pull a house down, but not enough power to outrun the falling brickwork.

 

Some of the early series50 parts are getting to be unobtainium though.

I love these! Proper big old vans!

We used to have a few manual panel vans at work (Southern Electric) until a few years ago. I loved driving them but they were very slow. Everyone would get out of your way on the roads too!

One was an A reg Dodge 50 the other was a later Renault version.

 

I don't think you'll struggle to sell one, especially if it's in a decent condition. The gypsy types and farmers used to hoover all our old ones up.

Most autobox Dodges had a slant 6 petrol, presumably sourced from a US car. I went to buy one thinking it would be the excellent Perkins 4236, but ran away when confronted with this thirsty device. If this thing is petrol the cheapest fix is the plentiful late 90's 2.8 Iveco turbodaily engine with its manual box. The Perkins fetch big money these days.
