One runs north only and one runs south only, both have two lanes and they're right next to each other. Before the second tunnel opened it was one tunnel with one lane North and one lane South. Sorry if I mis-understood the question. I didn't realise that the dual carriageway element was that recent! Jim Bell

Yup, it was one tunnel, two lanes till 2011. You can tell which is which driving through as the old one is much narrower, more horrible and leaks like an absolute wanksock. I've only been using it (fairly) regularly since I've been travelling to Whitley for hockey, so 2013 or so. Getting my tunnel change is an essential part of the trip. spike60
chaseracer
I went through the southbound tunnel on Thursday; it seemed quite wide, so maybe that's the newer one. I must have missed the 21st century lane on the toll plaza where you can use contactless, so I had to sit at the barrier with the hazards on while I scrabbled around for £1.80 in loose change! JeeExEll
Either the underseal tideline is rising on that HB or the arse and floorpan has completely fallen out of it. Is that the driver's boot just behind the front wheel? Interesting wheeltrims, appear to have two wider spokes on each wheel.
