Big Man Wilson doesn't fit in the Colt, so buys a tiny AX instead. That's the sort of logic I employ, well done!

Objection!!!

I put it to the jury that the specific problem with the Colt is that the seat doesn't go back far enough. Possibly to provide rear legroom as it is a 5 door.

The seat in the 3 door AX goes back much further. But there's less headroom.

Ideally, I'd cut and shut them, but it would be a bit of a waste.

You're in luck. Now all you need is two straws of varying lengths.

WilsonWilson, if there was a membership fee for autoshite and you were the only one on it I would gladly pay up. I wish I was that impulsive. Spend far too long 'planning' what to buy. I think that's where i'm going wrong. That does look a nice car. I think you should move up a size or two for your next one though.

There is. It's £6.66 and you might win a Colt.

Every ticket bought takes me further away from owning another car I don't need and which I shouldn't have bought tickets for.

Remember AX dash's used to look like this.

Mine does! Except the steering wheels on the RH side! :P

I seem to remember the lesser models had a single spoke steering wheel and a clock instead of a rev counter.

Please can we have some pictures as it is a long time since I have seen an early AX.

OMG no outboard airvents shocker!

Can i just get some clarity on this point?

Does this mean that there's no 'fresh' air coming in?  And, should one 'cut the cheese', then said smell will be returned to your face seconds later - only lightly reheated?

It's a French car for French people. Why would you want to let any of the smell out?

Failing that, sunroof!

I'll take the camera phone when I'm out today and try take a couple of pics. The Mk1 AX's suffer terribly with cracked dash tops, mine is no exception with three in the top due I presume to sun / heat / uv effect on the cheap giffer plastic. Sadly they seem really hard to find replacements for, since the majority of surviving AX's seem to be GT's or Mk2s with a different dash.

Mine is the "bog basic" model, no rev counter, and not even a clock, just a blanking piece with a chevron logo on. These don't even have a temp gauge!

I dunno! Lol. What's it look like? Since my other car is a rear engined Skoda Estelle you're making me nervous now! :D

Normally something like:

On pugs anyway. Was wondering if old Citroens had a similar.

The Citroen has this early [?] dash fitted. These are the lamps that come on when you turn the car first click before engaging the starter.

The lamp on the lower right middle is oil pressure. The handbook quaintly words that the lamps are tested in switch position A [accessories] OR position M [running position] but I don't see how some of the lamps are "tested" in the normal running position. Does this mean they just work in this position and you get the "suprise" of seeing them only when something goes wrong lol?

Mine is a Mk1 with the little 954cc carb engine version.

Yes, the BOIL light, if there is one, only illuminates when it indicates a problem. Like a fuel warning light.

Got an insurance quote for this today, and the best I can find is £575 with no NCB, so I'm going to have to move it on.

Bad points not yet mentioned in the thread:

Audible CV joint.

Crusty and french.

Judging by the amount of dust under the bonnet, I'm gonna guess its due a service.

I have unearthed some NEW service items from the hall cupboard from a previous TU1 engined car

Nothings faulty, but the Leads, Rotor arm and Bosch spark plugs (run on veg mate?) will come with the car.

Theres three quarters of a tank in it, which will get you almost anywhere.  Loads of MOT.

Its showing insured on askmid right now, but I will be sorning it I keep it for any period of time.

Located North East England.

Anyone fancy it at £250?

Posted

That is an astounding quote.

GLWTS, only £1,250 short of the asking price.

Gosh, collection thread to for sale thread in 23 hours: is that a record? Understandable though.
