Inside Vulgalour's Car Buying Head

Ah, the Carina E.  It's an excellent machine in absolutely every regard bar one: total lack of driving engagement.  They're so dead feeling that I'm at risk of nodding off at the wheel in them.  Though I do want to de-mong that silver one.

Oh I only just noticed (ironically, as it happens) that Honda Logo.  That'll be a no then.

Dolomite. It needs a good home. You could be that home.

On the basis that no-one* on here ever buys what they set out to

If only it had a sunroof, it would be everything you didn't want

Or this, which almost matches your criteria, apart from a few essentials

Let's see no sunroof, 2 doors (or less), pre-2000. Bugger it's shonky and has no MOT

I could see you in this, but it's over budget

Never drove a xantia so cant compare but the xsara is very comfy to drive and I manage to get comfortable in it. Some good selections of cars here though too

I usually get into this sort of frenzied state. The results are never pleasant (unless you like laughing at my endless stream of shite). I opted for a change of tack last year, and decided to own something I actually really wanted to own. The XM. I even test drove it, despite the hilariously low asking price. I wasn't so much checking whether it all worked, but whether I actually liked it. I did. So I bought it.

Far more satisfying than frantically hunting for ANYTHING THAT WILL DO. If rather more boring.

The Xantia's only comfort failing once I'd changed the seats was that the steering wheel was always too far away and the only position I could get the steering wheel anything like was the one position it obscured all the dials.  Useless.  I expect all Citroens (except Picassos, and I'm not having one of those) to have exactly the same issue.

I'm actually discounting It'll Do cars in favour of cars I want to own, believe it or not.  Most of the things I want are out of budget or in budget and so utterly fucked I don't want them.  All the things I really like start at £600 for bad ones and go up in price, by the time I get to one that's good enough condition to warrant buying (because I don't want ANOTHER project) I'm well over budget.

I like a LOT of different cars.  My insurance is practically the same for anything I choose to buy now, which is nice, and running costs aren't too much of a concern but the purchasing budget won't stretch to delicious things like Rover P6s and delightfully basic things such as Mk2 Polo saloons.

Agree with the Dolomite except it might be wise to have a newish* car.

Pao would be ideal if in budget, but it'll be £1k+. The going rate for the Pao, Figaro, and S-Cargo is at least £3k. There's also the Be-1 but you never see those over here for some reason.

That red Swift has been on the 'Bay for a while (I remember posting it in the tat thread), so you might get a good deal.

How about...

I don't fit in Fiats and that gives me a very sad face.  If I fit in them I'd already have a Cinque/Seicento.

I can do you a Proton Gen2 from my mothers next door neighbour.

It is a 06 plate stood for 3-4 years has some battle scares.Mileage is 26438.

So nothing that you require.

Or if anyone else would like it give me a shout. They want rid of it,from the drive.

Wrong Proton.  If it were a Saga I'd have been a big pile of yes.

Buy the Legend! That's the first one I've seen in 20 years, when they were new they were 635 and XJ-S competitors .

There was even a telly advert implying Senna helped develop them.

These were the first proper Japanese luxury car, 2 years before the LS400.

173% of people in my survey would be hitting that Daihatsu Applause like a ginger stepchild.

It's a saloonhatch man!

Do people just want to stop with the non-metallic green Rover 214 suggestions now? KTHXBUY

FJ equal poo. PBIS cover the R75 as a modern classic.

Do they? I think I tried them and they wanted approximately 10x the cars value on a limited policy! i.e. You can only use the car Sunday evenings, no more than 10 miles per week, if you cancel the policy early we will take one of your kidneys, right arm and left hand + 2 months salary.

Link for the hearse please.

Polo is over budget at £750, purchase budget is currently £500 so I've enough for collection and other new car expenses.
