Inside Vulgalour's Car Buying Head

It's been less than 24 hours since doing the deal on the Xantia so of course I've already decided what I want to replace it.  That is apparently ALL THE THINGS.  Essentially though, I want a pre 2000 petrol car with 2 doors and no sunroof that isn't an absolute shed and has more than 2 minutes MoT for around the £500 mark.  I'm currently crossing all my crossable things for the Rover Raffle.

Here's the things I've seen on eBay that have made it on to my Watch List, a peek into my brain space, as it were.  It's likely I won't buy any of these cars.

That's a long car, I know I'll take the photo in portait rather than landscape.

As you can see, I'm taking the Autoshite approach to selecting a small to medium sized 2 door petrol car without a sunroof here.  Colour isn't that important to me but it does seem likely I'll end up with a red car.

That Pao will go out of budget of that I'm certain.  I'd still like one.  Cavcraft's R8 is tempting but it has the wrong face and I feel I can be picky about R8s, Raffle Rover is more what I'd like.

The Legend is very me even though I don't really like cars with toys or gold cars.  It just feels like the sort of car that would fit.  J-T's Prelude is not a very me car at all, if it were an earlier one with the pop-up lights then it would be, but I never really got on with that newer shape.

Well... that went on my watch list.  I don't like the wheels or the black bonnet and boot but those things can be fixed easily enough.  I reckon it'll make about £800 which puts it out of budget.

How do you feel about Daihatsu Applauses?

I have one of these heading my way this week. Lengthy MOT (I think..), 4 doors, 1.6 petrol, GXi trim level (I think....) not Red, may not have a sunroof. Perhaps.

I know it's post 2000 but what you need* is a lovely Astra Bertone Coupe.

Not that I'm self pimping or anything......

Ah yes, but you could make half the cost back by selling the wheels to an imaginative* dubber for many, many coins.

Also, that's not a black bonnet - that's a blank canvas for your dreams.

Daihatsu Applause.  That's exactly the sort of obscure nonsense that gets me excited with the money paper.  Bertie Astras and Xsaras don't, I'll likely have the same doesn't-quite-fit issue with the Xsara as I did with the Xantia anyway.

How about a Mk3 Fiesta? Mingebag-spec means no sunroof or...well..anything really. That Astra looks pretty cool though.

I've put Fiestas on an off the watch list so I don't think they're right.  They do fit, I like them up to but not including SADFACE but I think they're the wrong car at the moment.  Whatever I get needs to be the right car, whatever that is.

Megane coupe? Looks ok-ish, legendary electrical faults, WCPGW?

Cavcraft Triumph Dolomite 1300.

Classic insurance, easy weldage, plenty of spares, easy to work on and sensibly upgrade, plus under budget.

Has Vulgalour written all over it.
