Crashed my classic, and the repairer can't be arsed, apparently.

Nifty Princess outline you mean, as that was the pinnacle of Mann excellence  8)

I like the painted c pillar look.  The vinyl on the c pillars made them look less modern than they actually were.   Would love to see this alongside that Morris 1800 undergoing restoration.

I wasn't born until '85, so by the turn of the 90s when I started to really appreciate cars, there weren't many of these left on the roads and the most often seen colours seemed to be burgundy or brown. What a fantastic colour, one that's certainly pushed the Wedge up in my estimation.

Glad to see it on the mend.

The alloys were available as an option on the Princess from November 1980 and were then later fitted to the Ambassador VP as standard.

I tried this decal yesterday.

hmmm nice, though if you were going to go with that decal it will need a similar one running under the back window along the boot lid, IMHO.

I was going to suggest the solid black stripe but you beat me to it. The only slight change I would make would be a wider bit at the back - more wedge shaped perhaps, starting at the same point as the upper line of the rear window rubber and narrowing as it goes forward.

I like the idea of black vinyl wrapped bumpers. Ace idea. Just my 2p worth :)

Maybe taking it along that panel section below the rear window too.

That is such a stunningly lovely car. You must be very proud (and deservedly so).

Ha, just remembered that I painted the bumpers satin black on my first Toledo in 1981. It was Sienna Brown with a gold stripe in the middle panel sections. It did look good.

I don't want to go too mad with decals as they can get tatty quite easily. I want to keep the chrome bumpers as a nod to originality, though.

Can someone photoshop it? That way no vinyl would be hurt in the process :)

Have you got a shot from a bit further away? I reckon a more wedgy stripe would look cool. Maybe black at the rear would be overkill :)

Well, blow me sideways. Top one, absolutely. Much as I'm on the black bumper bandwagon, the chrome ones make it seem less bottom-heavy. Who knew, the guy who has lived with and cherished this car for years knows what looks best after all ;)

Random thought. Black infill below bootlid. Hides slightly protruding nature of the tail lights but emphasises the shapes and cut in of the bootlid.

i'm not sure about the black bumpers...... but i can see the overall effect that you are looking for and the black DOES go better with it than chrome bumpers do. it coordinates better i think?

plus,  deffo the wedgie decal for the c-post, it kinda looks more balanced.

Thanks guys. You see I told you chrome is best! I'll get to grips with it at the weekend and attempt to complete it.

Reminds me of a wedge shaped cortina S in that colour scheme.

Oh can can see what you mean now

Not so sure, now looking at it.  It's a Princess, so it's too close to *authentic *in-period tide-line attack

Black bumpers give off an Ambassador vibe.

That's not a good thing. Is it?

I actually managed to take it for a good drive today as it's been 4 months since the prang. It's great to get back behind the wheel again and all seems well.

I've done all I want to do to the bodywork and I've compromised on the rear quarter decal treatment, but I'm happy with it for now. Thanks to everyone for their kind words and encouragment and if I didn't take your advice in the first place, this car would have been taken away and scrapped.

Now I have to turn my attention fully to the Morris 1800 restoration that's also being covered on this site, and we only have 6 weeks until the NEC show. Best get cracking.

I've admired this car from afar (mainly via leylandprincess.co.uk) for many years. In my opinion, it looks the best it has ever done now.

You've done a beautiful job there Rova, fair play to ya. Looks the bees knees!!!! hese things look so much better than the wanky ambassador. I think they look as striking and interesting as anything from the land of Pizzas, arse pinching and designer handbags.

I think the middle picture is the best one actually - solid straight lines, and the chrome bumper is a bit of a red herring with all the black trim.

Get on to DMB Graphics and sort that front plate out, and do it yesterday.

Posted

Agreed with the number plate. I did give my plate man the letters in the correct font to match the rear but instead he made what you see there. I'll get a pair of proper ones soon enough.

the rear lights being blacked out may only be a small detail but the effect is amazeballs
