Multishite Policies - worth it?

Just wondering if anyone here has a multicar policy like with Aviva?* (*still Norwich union to me)

Works out about £35 cheaper for my two piles of sh errr pride and joys - but just wondering if there are any implications I've not thought of. ie Do the two cars still earn separate no claims etc?

Be interested to know - as my daily does too many miles to go on a classic policy, and my dole bus is a Jap Import which nobody seems keen to want on a classic policy.

All help appreciated. I know it's not a riveting topic - but all savings go towards a future road trip to Europe to buy a million km w123 taxi. One day... (sigh)

I've got a multicar policy with Peter James. Nippa is my modern, and earns NCD. XM and 2CV are my classics. Very cheap, great service, all cars have full Euro breakdown cover, Nippa even gets homestart. Classics are on agreed value.

Totes worth it.  I insure my whole heap of chodes for less than the cost of a ratburger and a kick in the teeth at the local Happy Eater.  I use Footman James.

We have a multicar policy with aviva. Its not the cheapest, and if i get an ok bonus in feb im going to sack them off and go elsewhere.

Not had to use them for a claim, but one dd a month is good, and the online stuff is spot on, I insired the zx within 20 minites when I bought it.

They do take the piss with the renewal price, and ive only really stayed with them because i couldnt be bothered to go elsewhere, but tbh their not the cheapest for us now, I can just rarely afford the deposit for the policies

Tried Admial once for the merc and a shitty Ashtray and it came in at well North of a grand! Fock that, they are both insured individually for less than£800. Robbing bar stewards when I think of Admiral.

I have my entire fleet insured on a classic multicar policy through Footman James.

Six cars and five named drivers for quite a bit less than £500? Oh yes.

I'm in the process of moving away from classic policies & "whoever-was-cheapest-on-Go-Compare-that-particular-day" to an Aviva multi-policy. I change as they come up for renewal. Modern Kia is £150 p/y; 2.0 HDi van £226 p/y and the '82 classic will be £183 p/y without NCB.  Now £183 is more than the £95 classic policy but my plan is to swap swap swap through the winter months while it is SORNed as it's free to change online with Aviva.  And you gain NCB so in about a yr it will be the same. My plan is outlined here:   http://autoshite.com/topic/20413-the-pond-shite-car-swap-shop/#entry750689

I think Direct Line is also free to swap online.

Peter Best Footman James does seem to keep coming up as recommended.

They're a con.

I had a multicar policy through Admiral. I then got a company car halfway through the policy, so cancelled one car - and got money back, which seems to defeat the point of "save money by having a multicar policy" since now it's only got one on it.

When it came to renew, the wife phoned up and managed to negotiate a multicar policy with only one vehicle on, "in case we bought another car". I've since bought another car, and insured it through Sheila's Wheels since Admiral wanted a fortune, even on the multicar.

So for 18 months, I've had multicar with only one car on. And they seem happy with that. Which leads me to conclude, it's all fucking smoke and mirrors.

The only good thing is, I started the multicar on one vehicle and then added the other 3 months later when it came for renewal - but they always finish on the same day, so car #2 only had 9 months insurance hence was 9/12ths the usual price. But they give you a full years NCB :)

Multicar policies through Admiral/Aviva etc are completely different to the ones through Peter James/Footman James.

I had a multicar policy through Admiral when I had 2 cars (10 years ago)  and it was double the price of my current policy through Peter James  for 10 cars.

I put my car on an Admiral multicar policy, then added Mrs Pirates motor a bit later.  When a giffer collided with her car, which she was driving, while I was OUT OF THE COUNTRY, the accident was recorded against me.  And there it remains, buggering up my no-claims bonus, 4 years later.

Aviva always say if i add house insurance with them the price reduces even more, I never do though

I have a multi car policy with Esure on the 1999 318i Touring and the 318i Convertible, about £200 for the former and £180 for the latter, fully comp. I just got fed up with bullshit quotes from Classicline so just compared the Meerkat.

Two others ware on a classic policy with Footman James who seem competitive.

Admiral's quote was just laughable, nearly a grand iirc. FRO!

Nope.

All of mine is off street though and I do have 2 locations listed.

Oh and for the FJ/PJ type mixed classic/modern policies you need to have more classics than moderns.

Great help here. Thanks. A lot of insurers weren't that interested in helping with my second car as it's an imported mpv. Will try the aforementioned though!

Definitely try Footman James for the import, I had a Pajero with them as a classic.

They seem to have a blanket 20 years old = classic rule, so as long as it's M reg or older they should cover it.

They do online quotes.
