Salvage Shite...

I've never bought from a salvage yard before but this caught my eye. It's fairly local and I wondered what would be involved to put it back on the road... :?

Also, bonus points if you can spot the damage :D (Clue: it's not been robbed, fired or suffered mechanical failure).

It wasn't written off due to catastrophic bulb failure in the offside rear lamp was it?

zero feedback seller with 236 salvage cars....hmmmm, do I smell user i.d change due to excessive negs?

MOT and VIC check I reckon.... or catastrophic hidden failure....I had an ELX that colour but with more dents  I even hit a deer on the M25 slip road  To be fair mine had 100k more on it when it went in 2005, 6 years after I bought with 10k, a fantastic car 8)

Douglas Valley are a pretty well known outfit tbh. Maybe just new to ebay.Ad says the car is non-recorded so will never appear as a loss of any kind on HPi. VIC test only needed on Cat C's... Maybe its stolen/recovered or something?

Must be hard watching some of the cars that come into your yard for breaking, so many cars that only need minimal work get scrapped at the moment.Sometimes i feel like the only person in the world that realises old car doesnt always equal scrap car. I watched a lorry on its way to Grays today filled with W and X reg cars. Madness.

Yeah its a crying shame... cars way newer (& better!) than anything I drive! Esp the ones which have nothing at all wrong with them... that's just criminal.

Hey this is insane!

2003 Kia Magentis 2.0 SE

26K, appears to have a crack in the front bumper and sod all else. £1250! I would be delighted to add that to the fleet, but I won't.

Aren't these the buggers that need the engine to be removed at cam belt change time? That front nearside wheel trim looks iffy, did the original one explode perhaps?

Douglas valley is quite local to me, and I once went to view a car there, their description was "economical" shall we say. Otherwise had some bits from them and the price was OK.

Oh, I don't doubt that. On looking at the pics for the magentis I have definitely seen that location in ads before so that means an ebay i.d change due to lots of negs or being banned for whatever reason.A case of buyer beware I think....check the car out in person before buying.

All I can see on the Fiat is a crease above the n/s/r light.

Not this one, it's the 5 cylinder ones that have the access problem.

I don't know i f this falls under the "urban myth" heading, but apparently there are a growing number of insurance claims [body/fire damage] for cars that have subsequently been discovered to have suffered hugely expensive electrical/ECU failure NOT related, but probably prior to, the accident....................

You don't get feedback for classified ads, of which all of his listings are

True, but in days of yore they used to do just auctions, got quite a lot of negatve f/b mstly due to stuff being not as described. They did quite a lot of bike salvage IIRC.

Mr Cortinadave sir, I'm in Grays, can you remember where the truck was going, just out of interest? Or is there a Grays up your way?

Right hand side of lower rear bumber is damaged, Maybe also damaging the rear panel?Oh and no feedback due to only selling classifield cars and not auction cars, you can't leave feedback for cassifield i think?.

He's talking about Henry Gray's in Kirkcaldy.

Posted Image Exactly right

In a previous description of the car, the back bumper was the 'unrecorded damage'. No mention of any other damage though so.

See what you mean by the O/S/R bulb.

Still looks like a handy motor though as my current daily is p***ing me right off at the moment

I think this may just be a reflection of the building next to the car as these have strange shaped boot lids on them (although sometimes , even I can be wrong :lol: )

As already pointed out, previous listings have been auctions...I know as I had some in my watch list. :)

Well, if you traipse uo to Chorley (pron char-lee - do not poke the locals with sticks, some of them bite) carry on down the M61, off at the M65, down the Walton summit motorway (worlds smallest motorwy) and pop round for a brew and bog stop.

Going slightly off on a bit of a tangent, do Hills at Skelmersdale sell salvage / cars or are they just parts? They collect a lot of cars from the recovery place next door to work in Liverpool and I pass their place on my daily M65 / M6 / M58 slog and have often wondered if theres anything worth looking at in there.

They have a few repaired motors for sale but they're way out of range price wise. There's no salvage shite in at the moment. They too advertise on t'bay from time to time

Mr Lobster, Hills do supply cars, but you need to be registered through their auction website. The process is free and painless, although you need to confirm your id before you make your first purchase. I did mine via the Car Transplants website. So far I've had:-From Hills51plate 40k Megane Privilege Coupe £27002plate 23k Megane Privilege DCi Hatch £220From Car TransplantsYplate 80k Megane Dynamique £200 v.little damageStripped the first two cars for parts worth a sodding fortune and weighed them in last year when the scrap price was good :wink::wink: Deffo worth a look - go to Car Transplants webite and click as a guest on the auctions section - then cut your hands off in order to stop yourself buying, cos I very nearly bought another 02plate Megane today - for £150!
