ON PH I hear tell of a Moonraker blue V8 for sale in Poole, Dorest.

OK well it is the same colour as yours with a dark blue interior, currently sorn'ed but comes with a new ticket, V8 auto, bodywork looks dead straight from what I could see. It is over a pit in a garage so easy to get underneath for a poke around. Current owner is a mechanic with his own garage & has had it a while I think. 79k miles, it is in Poole & if your mate is interested I will get the contact number for him.

2001 - a Space Oddysey:

Prehistoric ape like creatures get worked up upon discovering an up-ended Rover SD1 straight six cam cover.

It is indeed one of the plainest looking engines in evah!  Who knows, I might just possibly have to get a more interesting looking straight six from somewhere to spice things up a bit.

maybe you need an identical one with a bent engine for compare and contrast purposes

The SD1 sat on its arse outside a railway station for over five days last week, then started first time when I staggered back from that London at 1AM on Saturday morning (sober, I hasten to add, but knackered).

Here is a little friend that sat next to the 2600.

I have been well miffed that, despite several weeks of use and a fair chunk of mileage, the RovahDaytona has utterly failed to explode, fall to bits, or otherwise commit assorted acts of egregious automotive borkage.  I am relieved to report that the reversing lights are now on all the time when the engine is running.  Phew!  Sanity and order are restored, and all is well with the world.

Excellent news! All is right with the world once more.

Carry on.

You left it outside of a railway station for 5 days and it is still there? Bloody hell. Amazing.

you'd have thought at least 1 scrap wagon would have been round in that time;)

seriously though, this seems like just the tool for the job (or is it just the job for the tool?)

Talking of stealage, a certain class of Jim the Crim might perhaps have a go at an SD1 in order to fake it up as a touring car racer and sell it to a gullible person for a bucket of cash.  I could rely on the approach to car security that is known as Lucas, but I might have to go beyond that.

Just take the king lead off the coil if you're leaving it for any extended period .

It's mandatory of course to leave it sitting in your office while showing your colleagues how smart you are so when you get back to it'll not start .

I used to remove the rotor arm as an anti theft device my old Spitfire.

A fine plan unless u you are my heavy handed doofus of a mate who managed to break the rotor arm clean in half in a bombsite car park at 2 in the morning 50miles from home with a car full of pissed mates.

It's amazing what you can fix with insulation tape.

I wonder how many AA boxes there are left - and if they still work?  There is one near me, sited at the junction of the A556 and A50 in Mere, near Knutsford, Cheshire. It is listed, which is why it is still there.

In case anyone else is interested in seeing it:

The Rovadaytona is going very well, save for the reverse lights being stuck on.  Probably a duff switch.  I am Mr Disorganised and have left it too late to get the car to an MoT test before my hols, so will have a faff on return.

Got stopped by an olde tyme copper and his young colleague.  They liked the car, but said it had no MoT.  Luckily I had the newly issued certificate (the design has changed again) in the glovebox.

The SD1 has been pretending to be an estate car today. I drove from near Thame to a village the far side of Milton Keynes to pick up an Eames desk chair bought for a song on eBay. I stopped on the way back to have the car very carefully cleaned by some young Romanian and Kurdish guys. Those car wash dudes always love old cars.   I hooned well mightily on a great B road between Bicester and Long Crendon, with an Audi hot hatchback trying but failing to tailgate me (I do not have good skillz, but the car just goes really well, and probably gave Mr White Audi a bit of a surprise).

The 1970s styleee brakes were tested and passed the test when a 2002 Vectra suddenly swerved across the lanes on one of the larger roundabouts at Milton Keynes. We almost made contact, but didn't, as I was awake and the brakes and tyres squealed but held the car. The Vectra ended up on the grass bank, and serve the knobber right, but no one was hurt and no cars were damaged.

Lots of classic Fords out in Bucks today - some show maybe? Also lots of 70s and 80s motorbikes, and some real Sunday drivers almost killing bikers at random, but the bikers all seemed pretty alert and skilful, and avoided the attempts by spannocks to take them down. A 1960s Corvette Stingray (red, natch) spotted in Thame as I neared home. Cool dude driving it, top down of course. Also a burgundy Jensen Interceptor III seen on the way over, the driver a silver fox type of guy in his sixties. White Stag, four up, tonking along the other way, top down.  I can haz TEH FUN.

The SD1 now has a stone stuck in by the front offside brake disc.   I will have to jack it up and free the stone.  Also, the rear demister behaves like it is 32 years old or something.   The car did not leak during yesterday's mega rain, but was a bit misty, hopefully just from moisture brought in by me/the atmosphere.

I can haz TEH SAD.  Careless parkers of modern monstrosities have done serial dingage to all four doors of the SD1, which were unmarked when I bought it.  No notes left, of course.  Hospital car parks, mostly, as I have been visiting my dad who is unwell.  OK, people are likely to be pre occupied when at a hospital, but could they not be a bit more careful?  Hey, First World Problems, and my dad is on the mend, so screw the car.

I was at Reading hospital on Sunday, and parked very well. Came back 3 hours later to some arse biscuit in an aldi who parked at such a stupid angle next to me I had to drive forward, reverse back a bit at an angle then crawl out mm's from his rear quarter.

I'm glad I stopped* my door hitting his when I slid in with some difficulty...
