For Sale/Swap: 1974 Triumph Toledo

Apologies if I have done this before somewhere on the forum. I haz forgetful at times.

 

No doubt folks will recall that I re-obtained this little white Toledo as part of a deal for a red MGF that I briefly owned. This is a car that I owned a tad over 7 years ago in very standard form with it's quite sweet 1296cc engine. I sold it due to a freebie 1500 FWD.

 

The plan was for me to get this car sorted and have some fun. This has partially happened. I fluctuate between gung ho and total despair in relation to motivation and energy. Not helped by a fucked back and if I am honest, low mood. I will try and describe the whole situation is as much detail as possible. I will also provide pictures. 

 

I've started to strip the car down as the paint was truly awful and looked uber shabby. The main issues with the car are as follows. None of it major in nature. It really is a sweet car.

 

The details:

 

It is essentially very solid. There is very little actual rust on the car. There are some dents on the drivers side front wing, a dent on the front lower valance, a dent in the N/S sill (not huge but there. I was going to leave it like that). There is also a dent by the N/S rear bumper iron. I have a brand new panel to go in there. It is quite a straightforward fix, just undo 4 bolts, disconnect 3 hoses and remove the petrol tank. Then remove the rear bumper (6 bolts). Job done.  Then cut out and replace panel - good access and it is a simple panel.

 

The sill dent could be pulled out/improved. The wing could be filled better, as could the front lower valance. 

 

The doors are ok, a few spare doors are included.  It has a NOS boot lid fitted, the original comes with the car and just needs a tidy up. 

 

The roof is good bar a couple of small blebs on the trailing edge. The A pillar on both sides need a small amount of cleaning up but is pretty minimal.

 

The sills are lovely and solid as are the rear wheel arches. Underneath the car is fine and dandy.

 

Disks are fitted as standard to the front, I believe that braided hoses have been fitted. 

 

Standard Toledo steelies with almost new tyres are supplied but the car is shod with MGF 14" steelies with excellent tyres as they fill the wheel arches a little more and look quite good. MGF alloys can also be fitted. 

 

The interior is more or less standard apart from the black vinyl seats - taken from a 1500 FWD, they are more supportive and more adjustable. The carpet is a bit tatty but is easily replaced and Coverdale do a nice set for the car. The headlining is intact. 

 

The rear view mirror died. This is common and I have a Ford Ka one to fit. This is the same size but is obviously screen mounted but looks the part otherwise.

 

The bonnet is brown but lovely and solid.

 

I have new headlights to come with the car. The headlights and sidelights need to be fitted, as does the grille and bumper. 

 

The horns also need to be fitted. 

 

The engine is a TR7 2 litre unit. It has twin carbs with K& N filters. A new clutch has been fitted and the car comes with overdrive. I believe a new gear stick mounted OD switch is required but I may have one in the box of spares but this is not written in stone. A front ARB is fitted to the car. 

 

There is an aluminium radiator fitted and an alloy header tank. The radiator has an electric fan fitted which is activated by a dash mounted switch. A thermostatic control could be utilised instead with minimal fettling. Relays and so on are fitted. The engine runs beautifully. The car does drive and stop as it should. The car has a sports exhaust fitted and sounds nice without being anti-social. 

 

The V5C is in my name and shows the new engine number and capacity. My insurance company wanted an extra 40 odd quid for the modification. The car is eligible for historic classification but this can only be activated when tax is applied for next.

 

There is a bit of history with the car. IIRC the mileage is around the 70 to 80 thousand mark.

 

MOT ran out at the beginning of June 2015. Once the electrical/trim bits are fitted I see no reason why an MOT should not be obtained. Why don't I get one? Simple really, I am too tired/knackered in all honesty. I really wanted to sort this car out but I am struggling if I am being completely open. I just cannot do what is required. I really, really wish I could. What might have taken a few weekends a couple of years ago takes me months now. It's shit but that is the reality.

 

I have the Volvo, the R75 and at some point..... a Daf. All of them more straightforward to sort than the poor Toledo. I am gutted but it has to go. No going back, etc, etc. 

 

I am after £750 for the Toledo and the spares or maybe a straight swap for something interesting and automatic.

 

I know that there are other cars out in AS Land that are MOT'd and so on for less money. This car is a sweetheart and with the TR7 engine, is a bit of a sleeper. It could be a great car once completed but that is now beyond me and I have to be realistic even if it is a bitch. No turning back. 

 

Piccies in a min. The car is in North London and would best be trailered or dollied. I like to think that I am an honest and open person. Hopefully this might be backed up by folks that I have dealt with on this here forum previously. I have described the car as best I can, most likely made it sound worse than it is lol.  It is mostly cosmetic, dents and paint. The other stuff can be refitted in a couple of hours.

It is a beauty and I would love to own it. Also have a large automatic Swedish barge to swap. They only problem I have is that I need MOT'd car until September/October...

 

I have no doubts that for this price it will be taken quickly.

The front bumper irons are present but they are a bit tired. The plan was to get new ones. They are not expensive. I have new ones for the rear as they were silly cheap on eBay.

C'mon ya buggers, I think I can hear the whisper of a Disco somewhere, it's very faint at the moment (or is that the transmission) but it might get louder if someone buys the lovely Toledo. You never know  :)

I've seen this, it s a good, solid & honest motor. Someone is going to get a cheeky little sleeper which needs fettling to get on the road.

No, the Sprint engine is thus:

 

The 4 cylinder, single overhead camshaft naturally aspirated engine has 4 valves per cylinder and a displacement of 2 litres. This unit produces power and torque figures of 127 bhp (129 PS/95 kW) at 5700 rpm and 165 Nm (122 lbft/16.8 kgm) at 4500 rpm respectively.

Quoted kerb weight is 1015 kg.
Maximum stated speed is 187 km/h (116 mph).

 

Not much between the two as the Toledo is the lighter car (in its original form anyhoo)

 

The MOT is attainable if the lights were refitted at the front ;)

I'd need a bit of help as I can't get to the wiring under the front valance due to my back but it would take an hour or two at most to sort out.

 

You wouldn't need to fit the front bumper either (if need be).

It's my lads birthday this weekend and we're going to Legoland for whole day Saturday. Staying overnight and heading back midday so theoretically morning would suit me.

Well a potential swap was looking favourable but Mrs. PBK said that it is indeed a nice car 'but why was I looking to get a large, comfy car when I already have the Rover sat outside'.

 

She also said that it wouldn't fit in the garage which where it would need to be or the neighbours would hang me.

 

Annoyingly she has a point. It's probably better if I hold out for straight cash as I can then get work done on the Amazon to bring it up to scratch. There is also a looming Daf to consider as well. Arses.

 

Looks like a cash sale only folks :(
