Uncle Jimmy Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Now considering getting another motor. Needs to be petrol, large, estate and luxuriant. Preferably reliable(ish) and self fixable(ish). Weird suggestions welcome. Somefink Japanese would be nice, Lexus don't do estates.😯
twosmoke300 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Saab , shark nosed gallant v6 , omega ( don't laugh) , big Toyota ? Camry? Uncle Jimmy 1
Felly Magic Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I was just going to say Omega, what about a clown face Scorpio if you can find one that hasn't been banger raced or about to be oval'd
Uncle Jimmy Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Excellent choices. Saab turbo estate is on me list. Camry- will look into, maybe hard to find one in UK. Galant V6, always seem to be saloons. Omega, yes, not thought of them. Shep Shepherd 1
Uncle Jimmy Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Saab 9-5 or phase 1 Volvo V70 Would rather go rwd oldievolvo as they're still about. Saab is topping possible list so far. Shep Shepherd 1
twosmoke300 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Make sure sump drop and pcv has been done. Regardless of service history and miles Shep Shepherd 1
anonymous user Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 How much loadspace do you want/need. Alfa 156 V6 stylish, luxurious, plenty of diy-able stuff you can (and will need to) do. Tiny loadspace. Jaguar X Type, choice of engines and transmission, incl. 4x4. If you want really barge, comfy etc. try American. I always seem to end up with Volvo 240 Estates eddyramrod and Uncle Jimmy 2
Uncle Jimmy Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Make sure sump drop and pcv has been done. Regardless of service history and milesI presume your referring to Saab 9-5? This is lush- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-CAMRY-GLI-AUTO-ESTATE-2-0-PETROL-BLUE-CRUISER-1989-CLASSIC-/271903629576?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4eb82108 Bit low on powah but otherwise shitedust. Uncle Jimmy Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 How much loadspace do you want/need. Alfa 156 V6 stylish, I always seem to end up with Volvo 240 EstatesWise....Alfa anything newish seems a tad frightening.
Uncle Jimmy Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon.Seems 'Roadmaster' tag was revived in 1991 for Buick Luxoestates. I'll buzz down to motor avenue in Gloucester tomorrow and see if there's any for sail. Magnificent Rustbucket and Junkman 2
twosmoke300 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Yeh the 9-5 2.0 and 2.3 pre 2004 . The 2.2 tid is fine , avoid the 3.0 diesel like the plague Shep Shepherd 1

Lacquer Peel Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Last gasp of the RWD Volvos, quite appealing.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-VOLVO-960-3-0-24V-AUTO-ESTATE-SPARES-OR-REPAIRS-/261934890816
Vince70 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 An old Audi 100 is what I would be looking for..I saw a nice straight one with not many miles on the clock go recently for just over £500 on eBay in JRGhttp://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=231580188967&globalID=EBAY-GB Junkman and Sudsprint 2
twosmoke300 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Audi is a good shout , even an old 80 is a nice wagon
Spiny Norman Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Early Ph1 Volvo V70 T5 (make sure the front suspension & steering live up to their job description and try and find a pre 98 car with a £20 throttle cable rather than a £500 throttle module) Saab 9-5 as suggested (Petrol turbo, preferably Aero spec, do the PCV/sump checks and if it's a manual make sure it changes gear smoothly. Avoid the new shape 9-3) or a BMW E39 (Rust, chocolate cooling systems) are all available for a bag in decent nick. If you're up for something a bit newer and Jap the 2003 on Honda Accords look pretty funky as estates I reckon.
stripped fred Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 How about a Subaru Legacy? Here's a nice Outback and it's had its camelot changed twice, whatever that is... URL: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=251997025194&globalID=EBAY-GB&alt=web You might also get a bit off for the bendy front numberplate.

dome Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Obviously you need a w210, maybe a 430. If you can find a good one it'll be a cracking car.

Uncle Jimmy Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 Will be a Saab 9-5 estate methinks. In either V6 petroleum or 4 pot turbo form. The only slight concern is whether ride/waftyiness is sufficient. Junkman- Have you read? George Gently Bentley P6 for sale.
Tetleysmooth Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/179720/1998-merc-e240-wagon-london
NorfolkNWeigh Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 A Camry estate with the 7 seats and twin rear wipers, preferably a V6, more of a Lexus than the contemporary GS300 ever was. They drove like baby LS400s when they were new, can't remember the last time I saw one though. Vince70, anonymous user, mouseflakes and 3 others 6
