skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 3pm Sunday afternoon and I find myself on my way to collect another car I don't need or have space for.Leg 1 and part of my cunning plan, drive to station in trusty MercNext I need to get on one of these: Skizzer, HMC, Aston Martin and 3 others 6
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 I am now moving westwards by rail.A Lincolnshire field:
Wilko220 Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Impressive colour, that Merc. Don't think I've ever seen one like that before...
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 The Merc will hopefully be for sale if the car I'm collecting proves to be capable Wilko220 1
greengartside Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I do like that Merc - Fatha Greengartside has a C200 Elegance in Mercedes Silver. Ridiculously reliable in the 4 years he's had it.
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 All change, my one and only change with a bit of time to kill: The Merc is a c250TD, the 5-pot 20v one, and looks worse in the metal.
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 I am now on my second and hopefully last train of the day, sandwich time: Garlic and herb rolls with ham, emmental & mayo in case you were wondering. The drink is peach squash. I forgot the wotsits today Squire_Dawson, mouseflakes, saucedoctor and 1 other 4
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 It's looking grim outside, this must be Birmingham, so I'm almost there. Lord Sterling 1

stillOrange Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 On this picture it looks better than on any of the ones in the eBay listing.I'm looking forward to more pictures and the sale thread in near future
HillmanImp Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 careful now. Down with this sort of thing. J-T, Rusty_Rocket, mouseflakes and 5 others 8
Honey Badger Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Nicely collected, love the look of these things and can't believe they are so old now, do both headlights pop up?
Skizzer Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Excellent, I'm glad this has joined the family as I had warm feelings for it when it appeared on the tat thread (or wherever I saw it). Do like these.
stillOrange Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I'll take the credit for putting her in tat thread. skattrd 1
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 Home, 100 miles or so covered and I must say I like it. The car goes quite well, 2.0inj (122bhp I think) 4-spd auto changes as expected, brakes work and only running issue at present is the thermostat not working.I had a bit of a play on the way home and on the twisty bits and it handles quite well on its 185/70/13 Michelins. Current to do list:ALB (ABS) light on, either remove bulb or fix, undecided at present.Thermostat not working, so it runs cold (and prob rich). Stationary it gets up to temp and the fan kicks in as it should, so the gauge works and so does the fan.Battery looks to be about half the size it should be. I'll check specs tomorrow, but it starts the car ok, so for now I'll carry a spare battery and jump cables. Future, if it's staying:Rust, lots of relatively small looking rusty bits, none look major, so rubbing down and treating before they get worse could save headaches in the future.Drivers seat, it's nice velour, but I got back-ache on the way home. It also feels a bit high, even on the lowest setting, so replace with something lower and more supportive from another 3 door.I'm undecided about the wheels, but I have some spare 4x100 195/50/15's from a VW that I may fit, if it is 4x100 ... I need to double check the fitment. Lacquer Peel, stillOrange and ianjobber87 3
HMC Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Love the look of these, that red is holding up well too. Its odd when we tend to anglicise a lot of stuff yet only honda did with the acronym Antilock Brakes/ AntiBlockierungSystem plastered on the rear hatch. Edit So whats coming to shitefest then?
RoadworkUK Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I wonder if the Japanese equivalent of Princess Anne had one of these. Lacquer Peel, loserone, robinmasters and 7 others 10
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 So whats coming to shitefest then? First choice is Umm, but if I can't get a TRE sorted then probably this ... unless it breaks between now and then. Third choice is the beta spyder as seen at Chumley last year, but that's currently MOT-less I will be putting the Aerodeck into work duty immediately to see how I get on with it, and how well it copes. Tomorrow I have 160 miles or so to do.
KruJoe Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Were they all autos? Can't remember ever seeing a stick-shift.
skattrd Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 There are definitely manual ones around Joe, I've seen them.Personally I was after this model, injection (some were carb) and auto, although I thought they all had cruise control, but I can't see it on this one
Bear Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I had a manual one. It was also very, very pink and very, very rotten. And that was in 1999.
