Say Hallo to Dolly (Warning 2CV Collection Content)

Mrs Cyl started yesterday early for us by her need to prepare stuff for the AGM of an Orchard Group she belongs to, so I has a quick look at ebay at 7am. I noticed a 2CV that I liked the look of so sent messages but still no response at 9.30 am so I called, I was first to ask to see it but he would not be home until 6.30 pm so that gave Mrs Cyl the chance to come with me. Interesting seller with a MG Maestro Turbo, Morris Marina 1.8 saloon and the wife’s 2CV had been replaced with a Nissan Figaro.

The transaction for the 2CV was strange, pleasant and interesting with us acting out a scene from “Wheeler Dealersâ€Â, I made an offer he rejected it and made a speech about how well priced the car was and how much interest he had in it and suggested a price he would not go below. So I went to agree to that and he said that not how it is done and I should make another offer a little higher than my 1st so I did, he rejected that but came back with a counter offer £50 lower than his lowest price and we did the big handshake. This seller was very pleasant and fun to deal with, gave us all the time we needed to look over the 2CV, honored his word nobody could see it until we had decided and then gave us a Haynes manual, Restoration book and a few spares after the deal was done.

Anyway this 2CV is one of those cars that will never be a prize winner and where ever you look there is a minor rust spot or something that needs a bit of work such as the left indicator only works when it feels like it. It will need a couple of patches for its MOT in November but drives very well and still looks tidy.

No, thats not how you do it - You say "50 shekels for this, its not worth 20" and I say I couldn't possibly sell it for less than 40.

Right?

No that's just an optional extra. Most 2cvs don't have that feature.

In spite of my great collection of cars it has been a long time since one has tempted me to take a drive for sake of the drive but the 2CV did tonight.

That looks ace. Let me know when you've had enough because if the body is sound but the chassis iffy, I already own the opposite.

I bought this 2Cv because I could drive it and enjoy it from the moment I got it.

Now everybody says I should get on with having a new chassis fitted, I already have more project than I know what to do with, so I think I will just repair the rusty bits and enjoy it for a while. Then maybe pass it on for somebody else to do the big works.

I agree. Enjoy it while it works especially with the summer here.

Does the chassis actually need doing or is it just people panicking because it might need a chassis? (as a lot of them do or have done). I *think* a lot probably have been rechassised by now*

* don't know jack, mind you.

2cvs are great fun! I have had a couple during the last decade or so and foolishly sold them on, wish I hadn't.

What I don't understand is why they command such whopping prices now. You really don't get much for your money and even if you pay trader prices (up to 12k!!!), it will still leak and go on to disolve into a pile of oxidation. Really, really want another though - puzzle solved it would seem! :-)

The reason for choosing this particular car was it was not the usual obscene amount of money for a 2CV but not a project car either so I could drive it now for instant gratification!

The worst bit is one of the rear chassis extensions, along with a couple of bits like one of the rear seat belt mountings which is not good. Just a bit of welding and I feel it will be good for another 2/3 years.

The photo is the rear chassis extension.
