Buying cheap cars at auction?

Albert Looms is excellent. I have never been to BCA either. Rolls Royce Marine Power is an interesting site too ;-)

I'm usually wondering around Albert looms poking at a fiat punto or if my mate is with me then a corsa b as well. Can't miss my car,it's the truly kippered blue punto with caution tape everywhere what looks like it should be parked in looms not parked outside,or my mates motor is a v plate Corsa b with volkswagen wheel trims and a shagged front wing. Maybe see you there!

It will never take off. Same as the Interweb or whatever they call it.

Probably best way to go would be a main dealer p/x you might drop on with something half decent. At the general entry auctions you will likely get your fingers burnt.

I bet about 98% of dealer part-exchange cars go to the auctions.

The best rule of thumb is the old adage of not gambling more than you can afford to lose. Assume everything will be shit and bid accordingly.

I so want to go to the Cannock auctions since a shuma went thru at £200

Bit dear.

I've been going to auctions since I was a boy and I've never understood why they have to be so chaotic. Why does every car have to be driven through one at a time, poisoning everyone?  How often is that drive actually useful? Why does everyone have to wait around all day?  Why do they need so many hundreds of staff? Why when you buy something do you have to queue for about an hour to pay?

I reckon I could run an auction with about 6 staff.  Cars would remain parked but engines started up. Auctioneers and interested bidders would walk from car to car (or put the auctioneer on a milk float). You pay £100 deposit on hammer fall and drive the car out yourself and pay/pick up the docs at the gate (which you can do the next day or whenever). If you find an undeclared problem before you get to the gate hand the keys back.  Discuss.

Auctions used to be brilliant for finding scruffy but sound bargain motors but higher scrap prices and eBay have killed it off a bit. Now most seem to be full of overpriced unsellable dealer trade ins and Arthur Daley wannabes buying fucked Picassos in that blue-green shade. Stuff that looks sellable now goes on eBay/Bumtree and the scruffy but saveable ones that were auction bargains go in the frag.

Do you have German genes?

Yah. On my mother's side. Not telling anyone her maiden name in case you hack into my bank account.

While we are at it, why have slow multiple bids? Why not have one of those clocks that descend until someone shouts out. Could have the whole thing wrapped up by lunchtime.

Salvage auction up this runs like this.

And has chemical toilets with tolley monsters the size of foxes chasing you.

I'll take my chances with the monoxides, thanks

I prefer standing around bench racing with fellow shiters, them billowing wrecks limping by in a parade, while ironically I'm not allowed to smoke,

because it's against some fucking law inside a building.

Add a cheeseburger that clogs up what little cross section Hollis' breakfast has left in my coronary vessels.

That's a chod auction.

Do not change this format!

I like a wander round the auction but I never buy anything, largely because the hammer usual falls at a whisker under full retail for cars that are seriously kippered.

Sod that.

I do chuckle though that it's far harder to sell something that's goosed now thanks to the onboard computers on most motors grassing The seller up for their myriad of faults as soon as the ignition gets turned on.

Truer than Jesus on a 'don't tell me no lies' day.

The Autoshite Auction game will be up and running on Saturday at Cannock, no entry fee, no prizes, just the joy of crushing your opponents into the oil laden dust.

Bring a pen and get ready to point and laugh at Chaseracer as he sticks another 57 plate Merc into his 'bargain' selection

See the Autoshite in the Community thread for previous events details.
