Metro Jet Black Destroyed

Rendering the car immobile won't help against a joy rider, they'll break in, find they can't start it and torch it to remove any DNA evidence.

Too easy to get into my cars, worn door locks, quarterlight windows, panel gaps you can climb through, really should invest in a crooklock or something. Having said that, most young folks wouldn't be able to get my car started anyway as the chances of them knowing what a manual choke is are slim... Even if they manage to get it started it'll just stall as soon as they try to get it moving.

It seems to be more common to see stories about old motors being nicked and torched but I suspect that's just because it's so much harder to steal newer cars...

No it's not, all you need to do is smash the driver's window, I know cos I've played GTA.

also its easier to get money/ brownie points from the real scum with number plates or charge the motorist for finding removeing his damaged burnt out car.

This is sad to read, shame for the owner. I read about it on BBC news last night. I really don't get how people steal stuff and wreck it, how can that be "fun"???

I used to pull the kind lead off my Supra if I was leaving it parked off for more than a day. It took 30 seconds.

Then 5 minutes everytime I went back and was confused about why it wouldn't start. The another 5 minutes rummaging through sock drawers trying to find it as my Mrs had tidied it away after I'd dumped it on top of the TV>

Owners of old chod need to be taught about securing their cars, when it was rife in the good old days you would be inclined to be security savvy as it was in your mind it could be easily nicked.

Nowadays with all the electrikiry you dont hear about newer stuff being nicked as much(Except high end stuff). Either install an alarm or some sort of immobiliser device/wiring. Stuff like metros and some of crap i have are likely to be stolen by joyriders/cunts rather than professional thieves/cunts so a visual deterrent or not being able to start it should help in that respect.

P.S I am a total hypocrite though, need to get a couple of mine secure.

I'm am a user of Autoshite on Facebook but not a forum user. I have made an account specifically to reply to this. It saddens me that you are effectively backing up the thieves in saying it is the owners fault for not having security. YOU SHOULDN'T TAKE WHAT ISN'T YOURS - END OF!!! Don't ever make it the victims fault!!

No, you shouldn't Jamie. But there are rather a lot of dishonest shits about who will see something opportunistic and take it. By putting obstacles in their way, most of them move on to the next easy thing to take/abuse.

Back in the 70's and 80's taking these precautions became second nature, in the 90's we dropped off a bit as manufacturers started putting immobilisers and alarms on things as standard and we got a bit lazy/forgetful.

Sadly you do need to put barriers between your things and said little shits. The days of nipping out and leaving your back door unlocked have gone. Sorry.

I agree, any deterrent is good. I am not saying that security shouldn't be used - I used a disklok on my metro. What I'm saying is that when a car is stolen it is not the owner's fault for not having alarms, steering locks, gear stick locks, wheel clamps, immobilisers etc. - it's the thief who does wrong not the owner so the owner should not be blamed.

Hey Jamie, welcome to Autoshite.

I think I speak for everyone when I say each and every one of us feel for you after having your mint Jet Black stolen.  Also, I'm sure Nisfan isn't siding with the crims or anything like that!  I think he just meant that all of us should keep up our guard to prevent our old motors from being taken by the oxygen thieves.

I hope you stick around here, you're amongst like-minded people and I can honestly say this is THE BEST forum out there!  There is certainly a few Metro perverts on here and my pal owns a Jet Black but it's not as nice as your example.  Welcome!

Wasnt the metro the most nicked car at one point?

Yes,it is not your fault it was stolen, but what shouldn't be a surprise is that it was. This is 2015,its shit, and inhabited by shits.having had a reliant turned over by kids in the street,no it wasn't my fault, but owning something different was and to expect it to be left alone was a mistake.I have the same mentality with my bikes, the day I don't lock it up is the day I wish I had. Too late sadly for your car now,and I do hope you find another, but my hot tip would be,even if you found another jet black, don't try and replace it,it will never be the same and you won't love it as much.personally I'd like an applejack base model mk1 :-)

That is a real shame, sorry to hear this news Jamie.

Only this evening I saw a beige F-reg and a red E-reg both CityX models with recessed headlamps within a hundred yards of one another, a rare sight now sadly.

Good luck finding another Metro and getting a decent payout from your insurance company.
