Madness

My sister has a W plate fiesta zetec -71k on the clock, a few rust blisters but really clean.

Clutch has gone and car has a problem in that it cuts out intermittently - I was thinking crank sensor.

Sis is a student and dad has been forking out for the repairs - however he has said enough is enough - for the sake of a clutch the car is going to the bridge.

£250 for the clutch to be done and car will be good. I think it's madness to scrap it, but then again, I am not the one forking out for it.

£250 looks like a lot of money for what the car is. But a clutch change on a new Fiesta would be way more expensive.

Some perspective required. Save the Fiesta!

My old car needs a repair. I am going to buy a new car for several times the cost of the repair to save money.

You might even save a few drops of petrol if you buy a new car. But only if you buy the dreariest piece of shit available.

£250 is a lot for a clutch in one of those. I bet you could buy a clutch off ebay for £40 and find a polish mechanic who'll lob it in for £75

My missus had one of these, slightly earlier and it would cut out intermittently. If memory serves it was the idle valve £250 is spen for a clutch, but better the devil you know

a work mate bridged a pug 206 after the clutch failed.

but that car was a piece of shit, it was abit hit or miss as to whether it would unlock the doors, never mind bloody well start!

it is a shame about that festa, as they are fine little cars. the BiL has recently bridged his after a magnificent mot fail, where the galloping rot in the floors around the back axel mounts was the least of its problems. the only time it had anything close to servicing done was every year at mot time, and wasn't ever washed i think judging by the moss growing around the window channels.

This car had not had any attention to the sills or floorpan - it was remarkable for a fiesta of that age.

Crying shame.

The car went for £100 - the same as a 55 plate meriva that was being bridged at the same time, and £20 less than an 06 mondeo.

Whilst I can understand that some people will bridge a 15 year old Fiesta I do wonder what on earth could have been wrong with a 55 Meriva or 06 Mondeo that justified weighing them in. DMF or something similarly expensive presumably.

I don't know about the meriva but I bet the mondo was a td I and had injector trouble,I've seen plenty get bailed for that.

The Meriva might have had too much crayon/McDonalds chips ground into the seats.

People buy stuff on the never never - that leaves them with no cash for repairs.

I remember my dad telling me a tale, one of our local garages had a corsa in, not sure what was wrong, but it was a £400 repair.

The lady owner asked if she could pay weekly.

Nobody has any spare cash - wages are low and people are mortgaged to the hilt.

Very true, which is why I like older less complicated cars as you stand a chance of fixing it yourself. But most people don't want to.
