captain_70s Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Crusty 2.0 W123. OOOFT. Only way it could be better is if it was a NA diesel estate...
mercrocker Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Bloody hell that's nice. Base Merc is the only way to Merc. Flog the plate to a W126 coupe licker and you'll have a year's free taxi-ing
spartacus Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Looks great, lightweight spec too, with the keep fit windows. Proper summer cruiser, a definite beaver magnet.
DodgyBastard Posted June 23, 2016 Author Posted June 23, 2016 I'm enjoying wafting around in this barge, I've been driving it to work this week and apart from the play in the steering and the diff whining its a decent old car to drive. It does need a good scrub inside and a patch welding on the rear but other than that its solid enough. Sent from my 5022X using Tapatalk
oldcars Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Looks smart. Looks better with the red trims on, does it have all 4? Angrydicky and trigger 2

DodgyBastard Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Hubcaps back on! DSC_0796 by srblythe, on Flickr It does have a full set, I took them off to see what it looked like with just black steels but I think I prefer the hubcaps even if the red centres look a bit barry. spike60, mercrocker, anonymous user and 6 others 9
anonymous user Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 No, the body colour on the hub-caps looks old money (where old money was, by then, not much money, so they bought the base model and kept it forever) mercrocker, dome, trigger and 2 others 5
DodgyBastard Posted June 24, 2016 Author Posted June 24, 2016 Something exciting happened!Initially I had thought there might have been a separate key for the door lock as the key went in but didn't give any hint of actually turning. After removing a couple of screws and battering it with a mallet I nearly managed to remove the door handle. I chucked some oil at it and with a bit of wiggling I managed to free it off. I fitted the handle back onto the door and now it locks.Earlier I tried adjusting the play in the steering with the locknut on the steering box, I had read online that a little bit of play was needed to stop prematurely wearing out the box so left a little bit of play in the steering wheel and took it for a drive. It still feels a bit unstable but certainly better, I'm not sure if it's down to the tyres, tracking or steering box. Noel Tidybeard Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 i would imagine the nut behind the steering wheel may also be a contributing factor DodgyBastard and billyboy406v6 2
Felly Magic Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I know they did an even worse version than this, a 240D auto, lots of noise, with little progress
CortinaDave Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Rene the 18 looks much better back in red. nice one!
NorfolkNWeigh Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I notice it's got a sunroof , is it the manual slider that feels as if you could use it as guillotine if you close it at the same time as braking? The electric one on a 280 I had was nowhere near as much fun. rantingYoof 1

Relaxing. I've driven a 240D manual and it went ok, you just need to drive around the lack of power.
romania00 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 That Merc looks great! It nearly looks like brand new!

bramz7 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Excellent find and purchase. You should send photos of it to the guy on eBay who has been trying to sell one for £2k for over 2 months…..
