Popular Post RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Popular Post Posted November 15, 2023 Hello, I've had a much needed break from posting on the forum in any great detail but now I'm feeling like I have some interesting shite to share. I regret deleting my previous tat thread which spanned a decade of buying and selling shite so with this thread I aim to update it regularly with vehicles I have coming and going. I've been raffling cars a lot this year so this first post will summarise how and why it started. It's largely done through Facebook, but I do have a separate website which can be used without FB at https://retroshite.com/ and a place to buy merch at https://retroshite.shop In April I was having a tough time at work, forced into night shift and really struggling to cope with it, one of my coping mechanisms was to buy cars to entertain myself with when I wasn't at work but started accumulating far too much shite and became weighed down with it all so decided to have a mega clear out! I'd ended up with around 17 cars and a bunch of motorbikes so decided to start raffling them as a hassle free way of getting rid of stuff. In April I got rid of these: The 505 gti did surprisingly well and made over 5 months wages at what then was my current job and was the catalyst for escaping my regular working life. Shep Shepherd, Jim Bell, Mally and 50 others 50 3
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 With those away I continued as I had before, I'd made some money, freed up some space but was still at the same job, falling into the same habits and buying more shite for entertainment. In May I got rid of these. I started having a little bit more fun with advertising these and making videos for them. Popsicle, Matty, inconsistant and 20 others 23
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 In June I gave the day job up to focus on doing this full time, bought a recovery truck to aid with collections and continued buying shite. These went in June: Dirk Diggler, outlaw118, Split_Pin and 21 others 24
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 July saw these up for the "giveaway" inconsistant, danthecapriman, timolloyd and 21 others 24
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 August was a busy month as I'd started accumulating too much stuff and needed multiple giveaways to clear space so went from one a week to sometimes three. Here's the shite from August. Cavcraft, danthecapriman, Wibble and 18 others 21
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 In September I saw these come and go! Some of these cars were bought from forum members and some were won by ex forum members, The Lexus went to Pogweasel and the Honda H100 went to Breadvan... danthecapriman, Rustybullethole, brownnova and 22 others 25
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Octobers shite included: outlaw118, Shite Ron, Brodders and 18 others 20 1
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 And that brings us up to November 2023 which includes: The 504 which was already done once before, the winner collected it then stuck it up for sale for £4500, unsurprisingly nobody bought it and eventually he'd given up trying to sell it having made very little effort so asked if I wanted to buy it back. I did and it went again last Sunday. This week we have the 1985 Nissan Bluebird. And next week is the LDV Pilot. Spottedlaurel, brownnova, Shite Ron and 17 others 20
RetroShite Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Also started doing a bit of digital art which I've made into T-shirts using a print on demand service so I don't have to hold any physical stock. I've not made an awful lot from the T-shirts having sold about £1k worth so far but I do enjoy the fact that someone somewhere might be wearing one of my shite designs. Here's some I've done so far... The last one was a request that someone paid £60 for just for the design. Macscrooge, Royale80, chodweaver and 17 others 20
Schaefft Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Definitely an idea that seems to be growing. Considering there already is a bit of a following it might make sense to grow the YouTube/insta/tiktok reel side, 10min tour around the car/history lesson/clean-up video. If you keep doing that for 6-12 months you might have another leg to financially stand on. How many tickets do you offer per car? loserone 1
Spottedlaurel Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I've been seeing that Bluebird on Flickr and various eBay ad's for more than 10 years now.

I don't really see the point in growing any of the social media platforms as a source of income through content creation. It's something I enjoy doing but trying to make money from it seems futile. The raffles have no minimum or maximum entry numbers and are done on the date specified regardless of ticket sale. It doesn't appeal to everyone but it works for me. I wouldn't totally write it off as a possibility!
Schaefft Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 It's definitely a considerable time investment, especially if it was a YouTube channel that needs regular content. It's basically a second job which is what stops most people from doing it over a year it takes at the very least. But they usually start from zero, and reels would be a lesser time investment than a 15-20min video. It's that regular content stream that's the challenge but the potential is there.
reb Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 You could do a Car Throttle and pay somebody else to make the content for you. Shame you don't know anyone who always wanted to be on TV and has far too much free time. Mally 1
Boycie Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Glad to see your enjoying life again , as usual a diverse selection of cars , love the bluebird , what are finding is the best source to buy cars ? , faceache , gummytree or the bay
Split_Pin Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Good on you man. That boy that won my old Cav had it for sale on ebay but I don't think anyone bought it.
dollywobbler Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Good call on YouTube. People love collection capers and a new car walkaround. It's why Chops Garage and High Peak Autos are successful. I constantly get people asking when my next camper is - unfortunately I've only bought one car this year as I've got to the stage of not wanting to sell anything... There's content to be made here. Having been watching with interest. The raffles seem to have been a real success as the Facebook page has quite the following. Well done. Erebus, 2cvspecial and loserone 3

It's a recurring theme with these cars, people win them, the novelty wears off and they're on eBay the next week. Ex forum member pogweasel won the Mercedes 300ce and the lexus ls400 in the space of 3 weeks but has pretty much entered every raffle from the start. Both cars went on eBay and he was left with a nice £4k profit minus collection expenses. He put them on with no reserve which seemed to help. Some people who won were genuine enthusiasts and kept the vehicles, the MK1 Golf Cabriolet was won by someone local and I regularly see it sitting outside Aldi where he works. The Wartburg went to someone who also has a trabant and the maestro went to someone who was right into BL and they've kept hold of it. I'd like to think that the majority of people entering are genuine enthusiasts but some people who've come to collect stuff seem completely uninterested. The guy who won the 504 first time around was one and thought listing it straight away for £4500 was a fair price but made zero effort in tarting it up or taking nice pictures. People are free to do as they please and as the winners are picked at random, the vehicles might not end up with the best person for the car. Jim Bell, sierraman, mk2_craig and 9 others 12

Nobody seemed particularly bothered about what I was going to do, I usually just pay the asking price and try to make it as easy as possible a transaction. Jerzy Woking, dave j, sdkrc and 4 others 7

Cheers, I've been doing the Facebook page for over 10 years but it's only in the last couple of years it's started really picking up and becoming more popular. The problem with YouTube is I don't know where to start. I'm not particularly good at talking on camera and a lot of my collection trips to pick up cars are incredibly dull. If I'd filmed the latest one it would be a case of getting in the truck, driving to Edinburgh, putting the car on and driving back. Not what I'd think was rivetting viewing but who knows?
