Spent all day on this, made up some new mounts, welded them in and bolted the rear beam in position. Just need to bolt it all back together properly and reconnect the brakes and hopefully it should be done.

After a day of driving the 306, I really wasn't feeling it so put it back up for sale and sold it to someone in Edinburgh who wanted to run it on veg.

The 240D I sold to some Romanian dude from Glasgow.

And today I sold the Subaru to a Lady from Doncaster.

I'm feeling pretty good about reducing the fleet at the moment so will be looking to move on the 305 estate and audi 80 next...

Have you still got the Chevette?

I do, I drove it for the first time in about a month recently and not really sure if I want to part with it, it's great fun to drive.

I think when you have the reputation for buying any old shite, these things tend to find you.

The guy from the scrapyard messaged me asking if I wanted it and asked me to make an offer after seeing one photo. I offered £200 for it then paid for it and arranged transportation as soon as possible.

Is it for the road again or are you using it for spares?

It's far too good to break so hopefully be going back on the road. Underneath is like new, I think it's the best 305 I've ever seen. It's in better condition than my gold 305 SRD so I think that will end up being used for spares and this made roadworthy. Can't save them all.

You are right, I’ve broke cars in the past that could theoretically be saved but sometimes it makes much more sense to have a car full of useful spares to keep a better one on the road.

Today I went down to Stockton to collect this bargain barge for under £1k, it's in average condition but does seem to drive ok if a little slow with the 2.6 12v auto. Getting it up to speed is painful but it's a fine motorway cruiser when it gets there.

You now have a top of the range Vauxhall to contrast with your bottom of the range Chevette ES, albeit from different years.

I'll need to race them against each other...

What are the sills/rear arches like? MOT history is pretty good.

You see some of them up for £3-4k - so sounds a bargain.

I've not really had a good look around it yet, I haven't even looked at the mot history. My Mrs showed me it last night advertised on facebook, I thought it looked pretty cool so contacted the seller and arranged to come for a look at it today. We spent a few hours wandering around Newcastle trying to kill some time because the seller wasn't available until 3pm but the train tickets to Newcastle at 7am were the cheapest.

We got to the car, started it up, sorted insurance, tax etc and I handed over the asking price, I couldn't be bothered trying to haggle or take it for a test drive or even check it over, I just gave him the money and fucked off home.

I'll get a good look at it tomorrow.
