My reliant rialto - now sold :-(

I'm sorry, I can't resist - it appears to have transformed into a kettle.

I'll get me coat.

I agree completely with Dan's comments.  When you have done several good runs to settle everything down and not had any further symptoms which point to OMGHGF, maybe consider a cooling system flush (though, if it's not overheating according to the  gauge, it can't be too bad) - and perhaps fit an expansion bottle, moving the pressure cap to the bottle and replacing the one on the rad with a simple blanking cap.  This enables the rad to  run brimmed at all times and the bottle takes care of the expansion/contraction so that you don't loose coolant.  Reliant did this as standard on later models.  Other than that, enjoy your fabulously green machine :-D .

Cheers for the advice guys. I will put the OMGHGF on hold for now then, pending flush and proper runs etc.

Thanks,

so, in the correct thread this time......  sorry!

so, i finally got around to investigating the possible HGF.  and im pleased to announce that it is NOT OMGHGF   :-P

i dropped the oil, and it was nice and oily, no wattery gloopy crap in there at all.

i removed the rocker cover. all good in there except for a film of condensation-esque mayo in the top.  all of the rocker gear was nice and oily.

i removed the rad, and flushed it through.  no oily gunk in there.

i think i got a bit carried away, and the crap on the rad cap wasnt oily, just the result of god knows how old antifreeze shite.

so, refilled with new oil, new oil filter, new coolant in the rad.  took for drive, oil everywhere!

should have bought a new rocker gasket lol

new one is on way.

that said, no gunk in the rad, and no mayo anywhere.

result!

Good news!! Plus I love the car (Dunno how, but I seem to have missed this thread on the past) it's a superb colour!!

Great news. Mine is starting to go i think, oil film on radiatior cap. Going to do a coolant flush soon.

The rocker cover should only be nipped up,tighten it and the tin splays out and leaks worse. Glue the gasket to the cover before attempting to re fit it :-)

cheers guys.  not good schumarialto :-(  ill keep my fingers crossed.

once i have this one sorted though, i think i'm going to have to sell it.  the wife is getting arsey about being a 4 car/1 bike family, and i'm after buying a disco or range rover for a tow car soon, so it might have to go.  when all is well, i'll pop a sale thread on here first  8)

thats good news that the green meanie isn't suffering with OMGHGF, and commiserations to schumarialto that you're 3 pin plug may be suffering with it!

Im sure it is, Always check the coolant every week but been checking every few days and the oil in the water is getting worse. Im going to flush it tonight but in all honesty its a waste of time i think  :-(

so, with the arrival of ranger no. 2, I need to sell the rialto before the wife kills me.

i'll bang more details and very recent pics shortly, but the headlines are MOT till about june/july 2016, no advisories.  tax expires end of nov I think, so will have get you home tax if bought before then.

its insured at the moment, so test drives are available. just been serviced.

I have a veritable bootfull of spares to go with this too.

I'll be looking for approx. £600 or near offer.

if no interest in the next week or so, it'll be heading over to ebay at a higher price than that 8)

cheers!

GLWTS, would love that but lack of funds prevents. Have a thread bump.

Very, very in the same boat. I simply must own one at some point. But I must have money first.

Temptation: Noun. When someone puts an awesomely Green Reliant up for sale that you really want, and you really know you shouldn't.

Please tell me you live a long long way away from North Wales so that I have a good reason to not to even entertain this temptation...

Good luck with the sale, not that you will need it. Great price for all the work you have done on it, and good on you for getting another one back on the road.

and the not so good bits:

heater knob broken off. still works though, and still have the bit somewhere.

image.jpg7_zpslto4js75.jpg

centre console a bit brokened, but fixable, doesn't cause any issues.

image.jpg6_zpsr3gd4qaj.jpg

dash is a bit cracky around the switches.  im thinking an ally panel behind the dash would fix this?

chips and scratches in places:

but its all patina right?!

I started the repair here, its solid, but not pretty.  needs rubbing back and tidying, but it doesn't bother me really.  the mirror is functional, but rough.

repaired a crack here - fibreglassed from behind, then fibreglass filler at the front.  needs rubbing back and tidying, but you don't really see it.  nice and solid either way.

that's about it.

This is on tricycle road tax, right? £74 a year or something. Quite a sensible buy.

Thanks to the robbing dvlatax is now £81 a year, mpg wise you will never get less than 50mpg,no matter how hard you work it,mine used to average 65mpg at motorway speeds, more if just trundling about.biggest problem owning one these days in modern Britain is you can't leave them anywhere for fear of them being on their side or worse in the morning.most owners I've met have had theirs turned over at least once,in one case 5 times in one week! Others I've heard of having them put on their roof and then torched. It seems if you dare to be different you will be a target.so if you live in a block of flats in bilston, this is not the car for you!
