Favourite Q car

Bearwood had C5s and C6s allocated, the latter were painted white in their latter years after rebuilding. They also had Leyland Leopards which could get to about 80ish. Can't remember if they were fitted with lavs though.

A bit extra on the C5 motorway coaches. When they were converted, the passenger seats were re trimmed using a leopard print pattern moquette!

Sadly the site of Bearwood garage (and the birthplace of Midland Red) is now an Aldi and Argos.

That is sad, my Grandfather spent his working life there, he met my Grandmother there in the 30's . She left when they married but went back during the war when he was in Egypt. My Dad worked there from 1963 till 1972.post-17414-0-72297600-1426464514_thumb.jpg

Here's a Passat W8 to pretend I'm still talking about Q cars.

I was going to nominate Renault 25 V6 turbo but someone already did

My second choice would be my old 1990 Yugo 513

Don`t laugh please. It was a horrible looking thing but they were suprisingly quick little cars. Owned it briefly in my youth as it as cheap and funny but it would outdrag alot of supposed hot hatches with its twin choke weber and revvy Fiat based engine.

Been after another one lately  but I think they are all gone :(

How about a Lagonda Rapide? Looks like some kind of Humber, goes like a DB4.....

I'm sure VW put a VR6 engine in a Sharan. Bet that would cause a few red faces at a set of traffic lights!

Yes and Galaxys, not sure about Alhambras. I was often tempted by a V6 Galaxy when the brats were younger , they were only available as Ghias, most seem to have started life as Police cars.

The modern equivalent would be the 2.5 Turbo 5 pot S-Max, another car that nobody but Coppers has ever bought new.

Fiat 130 saloon was heavy and slow, 130 coupe was heavy, looked fast and was slightly less slow.

my one and only 2cv was fitted with an Ami 8 engine- looked almost identical to a normal 2cv, sounded almost identical to a normal 2cv, went rather more quickly than a 2cv should!

I've seen this BMW powered 2CV at Prescott hill climb and outwardly it's a Q car, until it moves.

These flaccid Frogs are rapid buggers, certainly in GTI flava.

Our 335i is quite nippy on the petrol-much more refined on lpg

It is hilarious. Sadly, like my 2CV, it rather needs a replacement body having originally been a stunt car in RED2 (built by the chap who owns the Ami I've borrowed).

Ami Supers with GS 1220 engines are bloody fast and great fun, best geared up with 155s - easier than a gearbox change. Given that a good 602cc Ami 8 saloon will sit at a true 80 on the level, you can guess the rest.

Volvo S40 T4.

Only an inch on the diameter of the wheels and a teeny badge on the boot to give away the fact that you've 200 horse powers to play with.

Available in pov-spec too as per mine.  Didn't even have front fogs and the boot spoiler was also available on lowlier models.

Aye, there's a video of one kicking 7 shades of shit out of a 911 on YouTube somewhere.

We had one at the Patrick collection. If it wasn't for the fact that he wouldn't put an exhaust on it, it would have been my weapon of choice while I was there ( well apart from the S4 that is!)

If one came along I'd be on it like a tramp on a discarded chinese

You don't want a 9000. They can't handle their power and go to shit on twisty roads.

My objects of desire as an avid magazine reading youth were always 'Q's, in particular the E28 M5, Thema 8.32 and Maserati Karif.

This early infatuation influenced all my subsequent motoring. Every car I've owned has looked slow but not all of them were actually slow.

From what I've owned, my favourites have been a Sierra 2.9GLSi 4x4 with steel wheels and 1.6LX badges, a BMW 750i with piddly little 5 series wheels and a pez Citroen ZX Volcane 16V with one alloy wheel.

And tul66, you are my new hero. That Thema and 75 combo is UTTER PORN.

Posted

Tull66, I am now on a mission to emulate your incredible taste in motors.

Bucketeer, I know exactly what you mean about early age Q car influence. A 560SEC on wheel trims and cloth seats would be bloody awesome. The Karif has always been mind blowing to me. Would utterly love one in my garage along side a 430 auto saloon. Both on those bin lid alloys.

560SEC - my favorite

I had a shot of one once along a stretch of very well known road (to me). The thing that astounded me was the huge increase of approach speed to corners while giving the impression that it was just bimbling along.

Proper brown trouser moment!

It is on my want list

As a member of the EVM, I must stick with the Volvo. I will have a T5 or an R one day.

My old Merc C280 was quite surprising though. They're quite capable of throwing you back in the seat.

My Merc C280, sold to a work colleague, now scrapped.

Even the naturally aspirated 2.0 tests the limits of the 9000 chassis, fast ones must be terrifying.
