Sunroofs Are Rad.

I don't like sunroofs, much prefer aircon.

Webastards are ok on a 60s or 70s motor. Steel tilt and slide roof on something from the 70s or 80s is a good thing.

I have a huge dislike for glass sunroofs. I really don't like them at all, when I have a car fitted with a glass roof the blind will be closed at all times.

I like proper convertibles but the old sunroof is not something I ever use. Occasionally tilt, that's about it.

I occasionally drive a 2005 Merc 500SL which doesn't have a roof blind when the roof is up. Big glass section which is enough to put me off ever buying one. I'll blezz about with the roof down, no problem, but when the roof is up it does my head in.

My brother's Espaz had the same panoramic roof as the Avantime. Great idea but I always had the blind over.

Can't beat a proper sunroof.

I have this one and the purple whizzwheels one.

My SD1 has a sunroof, an electric one. A very rare option in so much as it actually works.

Pillock beat me to it, I can get the roof off the Flid quicker than the s/r in my E36 would open.

I once salvaged a webastard from a Granada and fitted it to my mk2 'Tina. Cut so much metal away in order to get it to fit that I was left with about 2 inches of steel all the way round, and the car flexed like a twat when I changed gear.

Lessons learned, eh?

The DS has a fibreglass roof and because it was such a revolutionary product some of the early cars had no headling so you had a translucent roof. A clear acrylic roof was available (presumably not from Citroen themselves) which must have made this italian DS unbearably hot in the sunshine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W8RdwVz2vs

Which is probably why they only used it at night

The car was fitted with a custom perspex roof and a very strange steering wheel for the sci fi film La decima vittima (which is well worth watching, btw).

It was never commercially available.

My Parade has a double fabric roof.

I was once drove home from Thoresby Hall with the rear roof not closed properly. The clasp is right at the rear of the car, so I may have unbuckled my seatbelt and had half my body stuck between the seats to close it.

The 100HP has a double glass roof with a fixed rear.

I've had several cars with sunrooves (?) and incredibly none of them have ever leaked.

I always find that driving a car without a sunroof is a bit like being in a mobile cave, I do enjoy having additional light coming in, regardless if its open or closed.

My glass sunroof is 3foot by 3 foot and retracts fully into the roof.I use it as often as possible.

I think every car I've owned apart from the V70 has had a sun roof. It doesn't open on the current C4, but also doesn't leak! DSCN1812_zpsfb3b1f34.jpg

Actually the sunroof on the XM opens, but doesn't leak either!

I've had a Dyane and a 2cv6 and enjoyed their roll back rooves, neither of which leaked.  The metal wind back sunroof in my old shark nose 5 series was nice, and beautifully engineered, whereas an electrified metal roof in my CX Gti Turbo 2 required a ceasarean section of the headlining to replace a sheared drive pin.  Neither of these leaked, but the Turbo 2 was busy finding new and inaccessible places to rust.  The glass sunroofs that I've had have always leaked down my neck.  That is more annoying than head gasket failure.   I'm surprised that moderns with clever powered folding metal hardtops don't have a sunroof option as well to complement the aircon (for the British market).  As for large fixed glass panels, I'm not so keen. Glass gets very unfriendly in accidents and cracks when rust eventually swells the frame or causes the body to flex.  Could be useful for mobile tomato growing, I suppose.

They are very useful in saloons, for moving long things. I have carried no end of timber home from Wickes sticking out the sunroof, even a (very heavy) roll of carpet.

Wouldn't have one given a choice though. If the car doesn't NEED it, I don't want it.

I can take or leave a sunroof but if I had a 205 GTi it'd have to be one with it, they suit them very well.

Provided you never open the roof with the windows closed. I have never known another car that buffets and blusters as badly as a 205 with the factory slidey roof.

A 205 with a sliding roof could be used for divers to depressurise. Mine used to blow the rear quarter windows open at speed

I live them, the one in my old Mk2 Cavalier was ace , plus it had that sliding internal cover.

Convertibles are even more fun: going to work the long way down the lanes with roof/windows down and the stereo off at 6.00am on a crisp morning was just heaven: birds singing and the odd cow mooing was pretty much all you could hear, doesn't get much better.

Clearly you've never driven a Smart Roadster roof-back at speed then. I'm not sure my ears have recovered from that.

I can forgive a car an awful lot if it has a sunroof, definitely one of my favourite extras.  I must have had 5 or 6 cars with them and both the Escort and 940 have one - not one has ever leaked.  It's another inlet for fresh air and makes the interior a brighter, lighter place so if it stays watertight I can't see a downside.

Both of my (our) cars have sunrooves(?) Neither of them leak either. <smug mode>. The Accord also has aircon so best of both worlds really. The Prelude almost feels like a soft top with the sunroof open due to large glass area and slim screen pillars... Have always liked sunrooves(?) TBH.
