What's the most favouritist car you've ever owned

Sorry to have lost so many entertaining contributions, please give it another go. One car per post,  make, model and reasons why would be good.

Shame the old posts ended up deleted!

Here goes again,

This.

It's the exact opposite of what car the powers that be think we should be running around in these days!

I love this thing, it's big, nice to drive, sit in, look at, listen to. It's the sort of car I've always wanted, you can keep Ferraris, Astons, Lambo's, shove em! I'll have this.

I'll never sell it.

My Shuma, was my grandfathers so i enjoy keeping it on the road.

BX 19 GTI 16 Valve E880 RLJ (don't bother looking it up, it's been dead for years, my mate who I sold it to killed it)

The one on the left here (the other is a BX 16 Valve - yes I had two for a while)

That picture is all I have left of them :(

Lovely car, stupefyingly fast compared to everything else I'd driven before it,  took everything I threw at it (including being airborne a couple of times). I replaced it with the mk2 there as it was low mileage and immaculate but I never really got on with it and soon flogged it for something cheaper to insure so I could get my girlfriend of the time (1996) driving. With hindsight I should have flogged the girlfriend and kept the car but you live and learn doncha.

Minivan, 998cc. Cost me £800 in about '92, used fully laden for work taking me all over the country with no problems. Picture taken on the day I foolishly sold it, still in great condition- I think it was exported to Japan.

Merc 126. Best car in the world (JC voice mode).

Although, when I was young, I bought my then girlfriend an old Escort 1.1 (MK1 two door - worth a mint today!) as a pressie for passing her test. I had a credit note from the dealer that needed spending so it didn't cost me much. It was really basic (rubber floor mats basic) but in metallic silver/gray and she loved it (and the car - fnarr!).

My car was poorly and I borrowed it to go to work one day and it got rear ended (as did she -fnarr!) by an off duty copper.  It damaged the boot/lid and rear panel only so still drivable. As we had to wait for the insurance to be paid out, I bought it off her and she bought another mk1 Escort two door but a 'posh' one, and I ended up with the car.

To cut a long story short, the insurance never did cough up as the copper was a lying, cheating fraudulent bastard! So, as I'd got quite attached to the heap by them I modified it. New bootlid from the scrappy (in pink emulsion!) and bumpers off, jacked out the rear panel so it was straight enough and the boot shut again.

Over the next year or two it acquired a 1600 crossflow engine, bubble arches, stripped out interior with a six hole dash and high back bucket seats, big banded steel wheels, spotlights... you know the thing. It was in gray primer the whole time and I fooking loved it! Thrashed the tits off it everywhere, had a couple of accidents in it which were easy to repair,  revved it until the valves bounced had an absolute blast with it.

Then, one day, in a fit of lunacy, I had it sprayed in gleaming white. When it came back it looked fantastic, put an interior in it (kept the buckets  'natch!) and some decent wide alloy wheels with good tyres. It was a really nice modifies Escort and looked, sounded and went great.

I hated it!

Really strange as soon as it was worth looking after, all the fun went out of it and I just found it noisy and uncomfortable, so sold it pretty much straight away. Made good money on it though!

Peugeot 505 SRD Turbo .... Swiftish,Comfortable,Reliable,Economical and dare I say charismatic ....

Regrettably I P/ex'd it for a new Fiat Tipo TD in 1994 (my only ever new car purchase)...... Doh!

My partner at the time had a penchant for 'new stuff'

This is a strong contender - my Daihatsu Sirion. I think it's the most surprising car I've ever owned - ie the one that somehow delivered much more than it promised. I reckon it'd still be here if it hadn't been quite so chronically rotten.

Ultimately though, I guess my favouritist is the one I've owned for 15 years. Such a lovable old heap, and parts availability that is far, far better than it was for the Daihatsu.

The BEST car I've owned is objectively my Toyota Yaris, my FAVOURITE is one of the worst cars...

My decidedly shonky Dolomite 1300 is my favourite. Top speed of about 58mph, no torque, bouncy ride, throws all of it's oil out of the exhaust, I paid way too much for it and she rusts like nothing else. It'll be the last car to leave my fleet, even if it's utterly impractical I'll sell the 1850 and sink money into fixing this heap...

Probably 'cause it was the first car that I bought that I actually WANTED to buy... Most people agree it's more lovable than the 1850, which is a bit of a bruiser, the 1300 still has dignity despite being awful.

I still like my IMPs  :-P

Polo G40. Bloody quick in a straight line (awful around corners or stopping, but that sort of thing is for pussies). Involving to drive too, you had to keep yourself alert where I reckon I could have a nap whilst driving the Astra.

And "encouraging" BMWs out of lane 3 in a little old lady hatchback (because, you know, the badges fell off) will never get boring.

"Best" car was a black MG Maestro 2.0i that I had for over 6 yrs.Never needed anything more than routine maintance apart from 1 cold start sensor

Ended up with most of Moto Build's catalogue on it by the time I got rid

"Favourite" car was my Avon Sunbeam Lotus,in moonstone blue and black stripe

Skip Brown exhaust and Bilstein/Leda suspension made it into a full fat pocket rocket.........absolute hoot in the dry and a total liability in the wet !

Then girlfriend and kids appeared and that was that

the ex. wasn't so keen, we were only 23, and times were that money could be tight after paying the mortgage and bills.

so i waited until 2007 when this little car became part of the family.

while volcano orange wouldn't have been my first choice new (that would have been amarath, a metallic purple) and been all over the county in him, even if now the car does seem to spend most of its time locked away in the garage....  :-(

I had already fixed a GTX interior, van rear suspension and a turbo injection pump.  I was planning on fitting the turbo next but then life changed.

Had a black GTI 16v - by god it shifted! possibly the most fastest thing off the line Ive ever owned - it was a very underrated car

Indeed, the insurers took a while to catch up with them too -French family hatchback, how fast? Nah, must be a mistake.

My BX Valver certainly made me grin a lot, but it was far from a good example. Did have 170k miles on it though.

I did like my 1955 Austin A90 Westminster too, but it didn't really fit the hippy lifestyle so I flogged it.

Granada 24v cosworth. It's the one I wish I'd kept, it was a minter too. It was everything I liked In a car. Big, comfy, leather interior, stupidly fast, all the toys fitted. Lack of mpg was what made me get rid when I hit a financial crisis.

I also loved my caprice for its wafting ride, big V8 and effortless power

It must be the current Rolls. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, which isn't often enough with the fuel comsumption.

Prob my old 1990 Audi 80 2.0e . Amazingly good on fuel , quick once it was decatted and built like a tank . It was bought on a whim , in the dark , at auction for 330 quid . Straight thro 2 mots , got damaged in an nhs car park so got a 650 payout for it and got to keep it . Sold for 450 after nearly 3 years ownership .

DSCF1195.jpg

A bit of history on it ,
Written off in 74 having taken an Austin 1100 with it , ive no history before this date
Rebuilt ( read bodged ) by its then owner ( in Trowbridge at the time ) and flogged on
Blown up by the next owner on the M5 coming back from their hols in Cornwall and towed to a garage for scrap somewhere in Devon .
Garage sorted it and flogged it on where it went to Plymouth .
Ended up in Exeter with this owner , flogged on and nic named the  chicken chaser by the new owner  .
Sold to someone in Yeovil who parked it in a field all day everyday with the tailgate open so the Horses she had could eat nice dry Hay from its nether regions.
A few owners later it was hammered to obilivion driving to Oxford and back twice weekly ( From Yeovil-ish ) and eventually blown up towing the then owners dead Avenger home after it shat its diff .
Dumped outside for 4 years and sold on .
Vanished for years and turned up at a local scrappys where i bought it .
Cobbled together with S/H crap.
Written off 10 years ago but rebuilt again .
Currently looking sorry for itself but still alive at least
