Shitefest 2015 5-7th June

Sloth's post about the roadtrip being part of the adventure reminds me that I haven't really had to drive far to a Shitefest since 2013 (when the Discovery spectacularly failed 3 miles from home). Why should the SVM have all the 'convoy to event' fun? We could prove that non-Volvos are just as capable. Perhaps.

BMW E30 is SVM convoy approved;)

I agree , driving is the one of the best parts of the event . It's lovely to be able to drive through nice new to you scenery with no real timescale

Cheers all for a great weekend, the organisation, weather, cars and company were all brilliant.

I don't care where the next shite fest is but I'll do my best to drive there quickly in a slightly shabby plastic car!

I may have been on ebay looking at scimitars and Princess Anne memrobelia;)

I'm up for a road trip too - I didn't mind missing the convoy so much as I wasn't in my vehicle of choice for those roads, plus I've done them before. But driving for pleasure is a rare treat :-)

Not the pride then?

I expect a full comparative blog post from you after your drive in it!

Would they let one tinker with the old aircraft, like e.g. with a Renault Trafic?

I'll bring the jump leads!

Probably not but you might be able to help restore a bit of the Spitfire if you asked very, very, very nicely! That's if they still have it, they pulled it out of Loch Doon in '77 and started restoring it but I haven't seen any updates on it.

I love Scotland, its the reason I don`t bother going abroad.

Its not that far really, we live on a tiny island

Just make it a little bit earlier in the year, before the midges

Will bring a 5 speed car though, rather than the Standard....

Also monthly AS meets?  For different areas?

Imagine that ! Whose eyeballs would we need to lick to get in there

All of them!

That already happens with Scotoshite and The Midlands MASSIV. Scotoshite is last Wednesday of the month. Dunno if TMM have a similarly regular occurances.

Another thing for my area could be Laggan Outdoors' 'Reverse Steer Jeep'. The driver is blindfolded and the rear seat passenger has to guide them by patting the shoulders of the driver in correspondence with which direction they need to turn but the steering rack is reversed and you've no idea how much you actually need to turn. Tenner to whoever can sneak an Autoshite dealer sticker onto it...

They've also got dirt scooters which look like an injury waiting to happen which must mean they're good

Oh and FUCKING SEGWAYS!

And more.

Raiders Road for some faux off-roading, about 10 miles each way. Ends at the Otter Pool which is probably of less interest.

Should I start a new thread for this?

Scotland really isn't all that far. I've done the trip from Tiverton to North Glasgow in my Mk1 Fiesta (1.1 4speed) about 4 times and it happily buzzes along. It may be just over 500 miles each way but was stil worth it for a long weekend away - and one no where near as good as Shitefest, that's for sure.

Everyone's welcome at the AS Midlands Massiv meets.

When it's chilly, we tend towards cars'n'DETHBURGAS at Cannock auctions and heartstoppers at Greasy Lil's on the A5.  As the weather warms up, we bother chod and lower house prices wherever someone's shite needs attention...

What week does that happen? If it falls in the free week of my holidays I might make an appearance.

Thank You, Yes a great weekend, sorry no time to add anything else to what has been said as I am off to Leominster to view the Stondon Auction collection as soon as I can.

I emailed Llangollen Motor Museum to thank them for having us, as they were most accommodating.

Got this in response:

Hi there.

It was a pleasure to entertain you (boys, men, chaps!!). The field was left in perfect condition and everyone said what a nice lot you were. You are more than welcome anytime and we appreciate you spreading the word.

Geoff send his regards All the best

The man at the museum seemed quite taken with us. The fact he didn't go mental when we were jump starting the Renault van with my Volvo, with a crowd of 20 on lookers, says it all really.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I just want to say thanks to the Uniwobbler and Matthecat for a brill weekend. Well organised and well executed as usual!

Thanks to 335Touring, Skizzer, Trig, Coalnotdole, Semi-C and M'Coli for rides up the hill, and in return I am glad to see you all enjoyed my car also!

It's brill to see people enjoy something you have put so much work into, it will be quicker next time as long as I don't put it through a wall first :)

Big up to the SVM for the honorary membership - I will try and make Cumbernauld somtime!

I am well game for any meet, anywhere in the UK. I think we have time to squeeze in another this year yes? Maybe mid September before it gets too cold?

Thanks to all the veggie munchers for paying for my weekend away - let me know if you need anymore and we can come to some kind of arrangement :)

All the best, Will Cleland ;-)
