Shitefest 2015 5-7th June

Let's do our best not to churn up the grassy bits, making a mess of kind people's fields does nobody any favours at all. (And could be rather embarrassing for Mat and Ian).

I think we're all good enough drivers to be able to avoid spinning wheels and acting chavvishly.

On a happy note, the weather is set to improve by the weekend (I booked it), and after looking at my Road Altlas of Great Britain, I can conclude that Llangollen is not in deepest, darkest Wales, it seems remarkably accessible from your actual Englandshire, in that it is less than 10 miles away! No backing out now!

That's all well and good unless someone turns up in a sprinter . The most useless thing ever in the mud . Park on two crisp packets and you ain't going nowhere 😄

I'll have an automatic Volvo estate with a towbar and mud and snow tyres. Wish me luck.

How far is the field from the car park?

I was thinking it might be an idea to walk to the field and leave the cars in the car park.

There will be a small charge in Devil's Bridge too to cover toilet hire. Two quid a head.

Aye, admittedly some of us just can't help getting stuck, can we Steve?

Who remembers that?

Fun times. In other news, Mrs DW needs the Nippa on Friday, so Llangollen will be done XM style. Trailer tent hooning is on then. The Nippa should make an appearance on Saturday.

Just pack a trowel in case it's needed. Worked for me for two weeks camping in Norway.

I'd need a ladle with the kind of foodstuffs I eat.

Okay that's enough of this conversation, it's gone too fart.

Or else we shall have to put NSFW in the title

The camping field is close to the car park, but we're probably best to use the field unless it gets full or is obviously muddy. The car park isn't that big so would likely get filled up if we all used it. See what they say on arrival but I'd say go for the field unless you really think you'll struggle.

Can someone post up a thread of the details of this, I don't really have time for 36 pages.

Have a look at the first post; if that doesn't cover it then send me a PM with any questions...

I've decided to program the scenic drive into my sat nav as an itinerary so it can be followed as a route but I think I've noticed a few discrepancies in the route so I'll make adjustments and some things that could be improved (marked in blue)....

Take A5 West to Corwen.

Turn left after leaving Corwen onto B4401 through Llandrillo.

Turn left just after Brynterion Inn up B4402 to a T junction with B4391.

Option: Turn right onto B4391 taking narrow singletrack road left, through Rhos y gwaliau to upper end of Lake Vyrnwy.

Turn left onto B4391 through Llangynog to Penybontfawr.

Turn right onto B4396 to Lake Vyrnwy

Optional: circuit of the lake

From the north of the dam head East on B4393. Turn right onto B4395 to the T junction with A458.

Turn right onto A458 and follow to the roundabout with A470.

Option: before the roundabout, turn left down onto narrow singletrack road (on LH bend, opposite white house with post-box outside) and follow to Llanbrynmair.

Turn left onto A470, and left at the next roundabout to stay on the same road to Llanbrynmair.

Turn right onto B4518 to Llyn Clywedog and Llanidloes.

Turn right at T junction in Llanidloes, then left at roundabout to join A470.

Turn right onto A470 to Llangurig.

At Llangurig turn right at the roundabout onto A44 towards Aberystwyth.

At Ponterwyd turn left onto A4120 to Devil’s Bridge.

At Devil’s Bridge turn left just before the Hafod hotel onto B4574, then shortly turn right into SF ’15!

So going by the sat nav it's 258 miles from here to Llangollen and 388 miles from here to Devil's Bridge going the long way so that makes the scenic route approx 130 miles. I have programmed the red optional route which means we can meet folk at Llanwddyn who have followed the black route - The red route takes you to the west side of Lake Vyrnwy, black the east.

 Your corrections are indeed correct! I'll edit the other posts which have them in, to avoid (more!) confusion, sorry.

I'm sooooo looking forward to that route!

That is if work won't tell me today that they need me on Saturday. Should find out in few hours.

IF YOU NEED TO GET IN TOUCH.

Best plan is to drop a PM on here in my case, but PLEASE include a mobile number/email address as it makes replying quicker and easier. Naturally on the Saturday, communication will be entirely dependent on actually having mobile coverage in the exceedingly rural bits of Wales we're driving through, so don't expect an immediate response.
