Will anyone be heading back into Scotlandshire via the M6 afterwards? I'm trying to get a folding bike moved up this way. catsinthewelder said he could pick it up from plasticvandan and bring it to shitefest at which point someone heading into Volvoland might be able to meeet me at Gretna or such like.

There will be at least four, possibly six on the northbound leg to Glasgow...

I did a spot of mountain biking in the hills around Lake Vyrnwy (on the planned route to Devil's Bridge) this afternoon, so have a few photos:

Unfortunately this road isn't ideal for taking a convoy along, so we'll probably take a slightly different route, but similar scenery. And lastly, maybe a re-enactment at this spot is needed?

Aye. Convoys on single track roads are a nightmare. Even if everyone had instructions and set off at different times, cars would naturally group together. I still recommend that though. More than a few cars together is just a pain to manage.

Aye, I've almost got a set of notes for the route, but obviously anyone is free to ignore, go off on their own detours, own pace etc. 30-0dd cars are going to get split up pretty quickly anyway, and it's no fun constantly stopping in laybys to regroup.

That'll need a camera that uses film to recreate it properly.

I do still have one, which I sometimes use. Predictably (me being me), the very same one which was used for that picture..

Is this over the Eden valley east of Devils Bridge? I went over that way last year and have struggled to find a better hooning road ever since.

It would be nice to go over that way again as a group, everyone should have chance to see how beautiful that scenery is up there!

No. Lake Vyrnwy is further North. The Elan Valley route is definitely recommended but I think we'd need at least a week to cover all the lovely Welsh roads.

Posted

Really hope the weather improves. 4.5 °C this evening on the way back from work, with sleet and strong winds. Two dry days out of the last 18.

I'm struggling to decide which car to bring, the choice is between 309 gld, Panda, Volvo 360, Proton or the Tata Loadbeta...

Posted

309 or the 360 would be ideal eye candy for me

Posted

Proton!  Passed my test in one

Yours looks cool with those wheels

On relection, Seeing someone do a trip down from Scotland in a Tata would be more fun. You will still be vibrating a week later :)

We should take in Dinas Mawddwy for a laugh, just so we can film Mat_the_Cat overtaking us on his cycle.

I was going to bring the 760, but I'm planning a collection trip en route to shitefest and will be turning up in a different old barge.

Posted

My Fiat 126 collection before shitefest looks less and less likely so will have to take S90...

Ah, *that* pass! Just the thing to tackle with a hangover...

My cars generally shit themselves just before shitefest so I'm not going to commit to anything as a Shite preservation measure.

760 was a plan for me as well but as it is now on loan it could be the Rover. I like driving the Rover. I think it's a plan.

I still can't decide on XM and trailer tent or Nippa and tent for the Friday night. Given that the route may take in narrow roads, a trailer tent may be a serious pain in the arse. Maybe I'll leave that combo at the hotel before heading north in the Nippa.

That's a daft idea! You should most certainly do it.

SIVIN SEEXTY EMM OH TEE. FAEL!

To be honest that was to be expected. Tie rod bushes, ball joints, insecure battery and something to do with the headlight switch. However as was stated on the tin, Mr Ron Sealey is on the case and I should have it back fairly soon for shitefest prep :D

Not sure which car now, Visa is not going to be ready because we have to paint the whole car due to dreadful colour match.

Posted

^ Mind you, a multi shade visa would probably win car of the event ( if such gongs existed)

Second Visa - drivers window won’t open, one of the tyres has already failed and smashed a wing, totally unproven and would have to be taxed just for Shitefest.
