garbaldy Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 I decided to spend some time on this old colt today so stuck it up on the lift,This is what the steering rack looks like. Bucketeer 1
garbaldy Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 I also had a quick shufty at the corsa, not only is the driverside tyre down to the wires over half its tread but the passenger side one has random wires poking through the tread and the tyre is a rather strange shape,I was going to jack it up and check for play but after seeing a coffee coloured sludge under the oil filler I decided this may be the end of the road for it too.
garbaldy Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Does anyone know if these little three poters have an oil water cooler thingy?
sloth Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 3 banger corsa? itll be the timing chain cover seal. common as all fuck.
garbaldy Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Thanks for the tip better check it out then.I wouldn't want to scrap it for fear of being burnt at the stake,
garbaldy Posted January 26, 2016 Author Posted January 26, 2016 Cop a load of this,This looks like a new water pump judging by the black shite gluing it on.Both front tyres are well used that's for sure,I don't think I've ever owned a car with tyres this bad. The pics don't show how badly out of shape they actually are. The driverside wishbone rear bush is no longer doing bushy things. andrew e, Junkman, Conrad D. Conelrad and 5 others 8
Split_Pin Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Hey man don't be too hasty about that cheg under the oil cap just yet. My wee 3 potter Corsa has done this for years, in the case of my car its just condensation. Admittedly the stuff under the cap on mine is a lot lighter in colour and more like mayonnaise though. As said, timing cover gasket could be at fault too.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Those LATE MODEL Corsets aren't bad motors. £100 and some guidance from the Haynes Institute and it'd go again. Plus K Seal if req'd. dugong 1
Rusty_Rocket Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 God, those tyres are bad I bet it would drive fine with a couple of cheapo wishbones and some legal part-worns..

HH-R Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Fackin' hell. It's had a hard life, it deserves to rest in bean cans.
garbaldy Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 So I braved the cold today and popped open the bonnet, the space with having a pot missing is plentiful so a decided to attack it with tools, The rad has a handy drain plug so I pulled it out and let the water flood out, it was fairly clean so it looks like its not getting oil into the water, I stripped all the air box junk out the way and pulled the engine mount of which leaves shit loads of room to work, I removed all hoses and what's this leaking from one of the water pump bolts that's strange, I got the pump of and its clearly been glued on with copious amounts of black shite, a look inside reveals tons of the stuff. after pulling some of it from around the joints I think this could be the problem after all. apparently it was a garage that fitted the pump. Coprolalia, mouseflakes and Bucketeer 3
garbaldy Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 since the water pump had been bodged on I reckoned I better check the timing chain cover gasket so I pulled the coil pack and then undid the rocker cover, the gunge was that thick its definitely not a condensation problem. I then undid all the bolts and tapped the cam chain cover with a copper mallet until the dull thud turned to a crisp cracking noise, feels like its been glued on too, with the cover removed it was quite clear what the mechanic had done to try and stop the water breaking free, it looks like the mechanic has been practicing his best cake decorating technique by laying down a slithering snake bead of the black sticky shite, I'm not sure what got into his mind thinking he could seal the gasket without removing the chain cover I mean it was never going to work even though he's used a tube or two. mouseflakes, Lacquer Peel, Bucketeer and 1 other 4
garbaldy Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 Now I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure the chain is not meant to be this loose, the chain tensioner doesn't appear to be doing anything at all, it doesn't spring out that's for sure and I'm amazed at how quiet the engine ran with that much slack in the chain, I thought these where spring loaded, they aren't oil pressured tensioners are they? nacho man 1
garbaldy Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Since all the timing gear has to be removed to fit the chain cover gasket I thought I would price up the bits, I'm not sure refitting the old chain and gubins would be advisable,The full chain kit is near on £70 then oil filters and coolant makes for a rather costly job on a car I don't want or need. What do we say this car is worth ?
Dave_Q Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Possibly 500 on a good day? Got to be worth it just for the satisfaction of fixing someone else's bodges.
garbaldy Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Possibly 500 on a good day? Got to be worth it just for the satisfaction of fixing someone else's bodges.I was thinking more like £250 odd but then I've never been good at selling just buying. All I seem to be doing these days is fixing other peoples shoddy workmanship and it gets a bit sickening
Split_Pin Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 These are good for 1st time car owners, with MOT and if its clean enough I would say 4 to five hundered.
garbaldy Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 Well its Thursday and I've decided its time to buy another car, I used the pussy method yet again and set of on a well trodden path across the border, this was what awaited me, its a fooking spaceship, I loaded it on the borrowed trailer and set of hame again, for a small car this things fookin huuugemongus and fills the trailer. see what I meen. pics to flow in daylight if anyones interested. Sigmund Fraud, Bucketeer, colino and 3 others 6
dollywobbler Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I quite like these Civics. Stupid rear window aside. Regarding the Corsa, my little sister loves hers. It's served her very well for two years now, though is a 'big block' 1.2. Tayne 1
brownnova Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Triangle 'zorst!!!! That is all... Louise2cv 1

Lacquer Peel Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Triangle 'zorst!!!! That is all... Triangle exhaust trim I believe, there's a conventional exhaust behind it. The Corsa bodges are horrific, I thought I was a bodger but at least I don't make a living out of it. dugong and Bucketeer 2

Ghosty Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Correct, triangular hole in bumper. And the exhausts will point downwards, as the lesser models of the spaceship just have grey plastic instead of a hole.
brownnova Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Triangle exhaust trim I believe, there's a conventional exhaust behind it. Shhh... Don't ruin it!! oldcars and Lacquer Peel 2
