RS2000 4x4. Classic or Crap?

Recommended Posts

I've been given contact details for a 1994 RS2000 4x4 with a borked engine but replacement engine supplied. Is it going to be worth the chew or should I leave it where it lays, bearing in mind it's a 21 year old Ford, unseen at the mo? Don't think it's been laid long, nor do I know general condition until have a looky see.

IMO they are boring-looking, dull, uninspiring cars, but if the price is right, its not rotten and you have somewhere to store it for ten years you could join the OSF retirement fund scheme.

Classic or Crap? Things can be both you know.

Sherpa coupe I'm looking at you.

Both.

If buying it, be warned that you may have fuse box issues and a leaking rear end...

Yeah but what about the car?

I assume you mean leaky rear diff? I also guess fuse box the same as other Escorts of the same year, not that I've seen one of them recently either.

I'd say go for it, if it's not too dear, worst case you should always be able to punt it on to the OSF fanboys.

i wouild say buy it theres not many of these left so if you make it 100% again tuck it away and look after it, the prices will increase as its rare and has an rs badge, but be prepared for the usual escort mk5/6 rust issues

A mate of mine had one five or six years ago and literally couldn't give it away.

It had done 150000 hard miles and showed every single one of them.

He didn't want to see it bridged but I'm pretty sure thats where it went.

I don't like the pics of the chassis on the red Ebay one, will have tread carefully. Don't want wanked engine and Ryvita chassis!

The 4x4 ones are rare, says rs on the badge I bet there'll be ones on eBay this year selling for 3+k

I think you'll need to store it for a bit, but eventually these will be worth decent coin

No, I just meant that my hatch carpet was damp due to the ingress of water.

Either that or one of pwick neighbours was peeing through the lock...

I wasn't viewing it as an investment. Get it useable, mot'd, then sell at a loss when I get bored is the usual way.

Get it, use it and lime all other RS stuff you'll make money if you wait long enough

I say buy it. Looks shite, but rare and with interesting tech underneath and if you get it into decent shape there'll always be a few keen racists happy to buy it off you. Can't lose

I guess it all depends on how much it is and how rotten it is, if it's cheap enough and your capable of fitting a engine then what have you got to lose, the engine is worth a bit on its own.

a few keen racists, ive just nearly choked whilst eating jelly beans reading that

Thanks for the thoughts boys, I'll be chasing it up and seeing what unfolds. The chassis seems to be the biggy for me, if it looks anything like that other one it won't be coming home with me. Also it may just be plain rough, old Fords don't age well for me.

If you decide to pass I may be interested. I am ashamed to admit that I worshipped the Escort Cosworth as a 10 year old and this is probably the closest I'll ever get to living that dream.

An mk5 RS2000 as a Cosworth dream substitute?

That would be like dreaming of holidaying on a paradise island with Kylie and waking up in the caravan from Father Ted with Jeremy Kyle.

Is it still a 4x4? Transfer boxes are made of jelly and have been unavailable for years now I think.

As far as I know still 4wd, I'm told owner reasonable switched on mechanically and didn't mention it to contact. Spare transfer box with replacement engine, I'm guessing they mount on it.
