It might well be, I've seen quite a few cars with the wrong gearbox on the V5.

That does look pretty bloody good! If there's no hidden grot it would be worth taking on. Diesel autos were surprisingly popular and usually came with the ZF gearbox which is the nicer of the two.

Manuals are GR14 though.

Only just caught up with this, some of us had to work lots over the break.

 

Thats a cracking looking motor, i thought it would have the flat front of the early 7's, but from the front it looks like a Niner with the slightly sloping headlights and angled front skirt, must have been a semi facelift at the end of 7 which passed me by.

 

I like it a lot, enjoy.

 

13mm spanner and any small/medium flat screwdriver will do for fuel screw, have a play, turn it in clockwise by a quarter turn see how it goes, they ideally want to smoke a bit under full power (it'll look terrible in headlights so judge in daylight), interestingly i found ours better on fuel for richening up, maybe cos it allowed you to keep the revs down.

 

Can't do bugger all to this modern shit without a bleedin remap, you've rekindled thoughts of an old skool Diesel Tim, i'll be perusing 80 series Landcruisers again at this rate.

That sounds about right. I think the best I saw on my 940 was 33mpg, and that was with a 5 speed manual. My dad had it from 14k to 198k and I think 40mpg was the best he got.

Sounds like my old Merc W123 300D auto. 27mpg was the average. Bloody awful, but sounded nice and was very relaxing. On account of being slow as f*ck.

They were rather undergeared for a big ole diesel.  My 940 TD estate averaged just under 40mpg on a run down to Grenoble and back - that was taking it easy on the way down and going like a twat on the way back to try and catch the ferry after getting stuck for ages in Lyon rush hour traffic.  Thankfully French diesel was still cheap.
