1996 VW Polo 1.9D CL

Our Maud has deemed her daily ride for the last few years "too shite" and bought a newer one.

Its a 3 door n/a diesel and has 113k miles on it. MOT until early February but needs a front wheel bearing and a rear wheel cylinder to be in with a chance of another MOT. Its had some welding to the floor and nearside rear inner arch last year and a reconditioned gearbox a couple of years ago. All 4 tyres are pretty recent and have plenty of meat left on them. Bodywork is tatty with slightly frilly rear arches. Vibrates like a sex aid at idle but provides 50mpg and admiring (I think) looks from scrap metal dealers.

Price is 150 queenheads and location is Cranage in Cheshire.

If anyone cares the vibration is probably the short mounting steady under the car from the gearbox back over. Of course the vibration may be it's best selling point though.

Sure it's lucas? I had same engine, same year in a golf and it was bosch, I thought it was just the french that fitted whatever shit they had lying about, with VW being quite consistent.

Yeah, I'm sure the SDi versions eat veg. I'm nearly always wrong though.

I don't know why, but smaller VAG stuff (Felicia, Polo) with the indirect injection 1.9D lump is always fitted with a Lucas pump.

The SDI engine is different, GR8 4 VEG.

I had a 1997 1.9D and ran it for a while on 50/50, Lucas pump and all. Nowt happened. If it breaks get over it, it isn't a priceless classic, it'll be in the scrappy soon anyway.

Oh aye - forgot to mention - it has over half a tank of fuel in it. There is a slim chance that this may increase its appeal. (Must do as it doesn't have a massive amount to begin with!)

Lucas pump.

I'll check out what pump it is next time I'm at me unit. Hand book says the engine is SDI.

If it is bosch i'd be interested.need a frugal beater for the station run

Bugger - AEF code engine means Lucas pump. Guess I'll be weighing it in then!

I can't believe this is of no use to someone on here, these Polos aren't that bad motors at all.

Aye - would be a terrible waste. Fair doos it needs a couple of jobs doing but its been fantastically reliable - doesn't even stink inside since the floor was repaired!

I wanted to hold out for one of these for the mrs' first car after she declared love for the pistachio green colour they come in, as I thought they were vegetarian. Knowing they're not makes me feel slightly better about the gutless, shit on fuel 1.4 pez I got her, but surely it's worth having to somebody?
