... a mate in the vag word pleb'acy here I deep south Ireland - same county as me - Tipperary ( a county so big here they tried to divide it into north Tipp n South tipp; with two county councils - 'north riding' n 'south riding' (county council)- till they recently amalgamated both councils into one all encompassing county council to make bribery more efficient...' no more riding in Tipp' the locals on both side of the border cried... but we had our differences; teeth, upper lips, trimmed hedges, not marrying into into ow own bloodlines etc etc.... anyhow we knew each other from shows... he had a load of dead vws n audis, landrovers, bmw - a sound lad really - one of the exceptions to the rule.... hed sold a mk1 caddy to a night club to bog up with filler n act as a DJ's desk in Limerick, through one his mates there - he worked in Half'aurdZrUs there n owned a vw beetle... I used to run a mk1 semi pineapple caddy myself so I asked about the caddy... there was the occasional mk1 golf van refrence 'its just a shell we've engine shafted it' - its fucked "yer grand"...

...Long story short they pimped it up on Done deal 3 months later; n got lots of time wasters, n promisies - it went up on another 2 occasions on DD here with the threat that it might get scrapped if 'action wasn't taken' - being a commercial' freak, I said Id take a look at it (choose a day it was pissin rain n only the sellers Jeep cheeroke jeep could make it up the flooded mountain road (this is North TIPP !!); got up there n viewd it at a  long abandoned village garage  'beyond the backroads known on maps - a tree had fallen in the high January winds gone, but had micariously missed the mk1van - what a selling point"...., haggled n arranged to have it n have it delivered for €200 - I planned to use it as a 'jig'/spare shell to weld up 02A (cable shift later -non bowel of porridge / bucket of bolts vw gearboxes) to mk1 mounts id be welding up for myself and a mate, too finically challenged to pay for the site welded ones off e-bay...

This is the site that greeted me on 'first view' (rain pissin down side ways - phone pic)..

...contining the story on, musch to everyones boredom; the seller took 2 months to deliver; cars left went/got scrapped in between - was nearly goin to ask for my cash back back - and them were the afternoons/evenings I was midly sober - turns ot my mates dad is (genuinely) a huge volunteer for local charities of all worthy types; he lent out his jeep n 'forgot' about delivering the mk1 van jig' Id ordered - he got it back off the charity - delivered it to my lock up on a ricketdy transporter during an agreed 'midnight run' - shoved it off the trailer bascially... next day I bolted up some spare mk1 golf suspension stuff that was lying round to make it a roller... n take a look...

Sory Hillman imp - might be a bit vag 'offensive' - thought it might be acceptable here, as its the literally the 'golf nobody wanted' (might still be the case n here)... but it was lying about n goin to get scrapped; thought it worthy to be saved it n that,,,, more to the story; sorry if Im goin on a bit...

...sills were good, so decided to 'excavate' the interior'...full of tractor/bmw e30/e34/ mk2 golf bits of trim - 3 seats of seats in the back, mk1, n mk2 bumpers.... dumped the lot... anyways - took the lower pockets off the remains of the dash, n this lot dropped out;

It's ok, from the first post, it wasn't clear what was going on.

Anyway, it's clearer now, and a brave save. Good effort!

Please don't "mint it up" or exaggerate the patina (God I hate that word!), do as little as possible to the bodywork to make it legal. Fix and enjoy :)

...eh, Im getting to it; I cant see to text after I put up pics... anyhow after dash lower n carpets were binned n removed, plus all the shit in the interior; Old tow hitch kits, diaries, some pencils n shit were left... much of it mush n unreadable, seems it was once an aul CIE (irish public transport) staff wagon/car /mule...

...some CIE 'artefacts' here - the ones that survived drying out- theres also a no working 'fancy for back in the day pen ive no picture here for... I cant say its a 'cie staff car' for 100% but possibly a 'knock back to home' bus driver changeover chariot from back in the day... these old mk1 vans; in 'commercially supplied' form had no undersealing at all for 'our market' here in Ireland - underside is just paint; yet the floor n sills are not too bad on this one, so Im probably going to save it/build it back up.... both pillars are gone but its 'not that bad'...

I don't know what the write up means, but the van defo needs saving. Leave it standard though.

Good work - I'm up in North County Dub, and always wondered about the Irish fascination with making DIY vans out of hatchbacks & estates (Sierra's / Focus's / Citroen C4's) till I found out about the tax advantages...

Original old style plates a good find too :-)

Aye, this, was not having a punt at the car, as an ex VW owner myself I am pretty easy going on that, I was genuinely just having trouble following what was going on.

It appears you have found a carrier bag full of used notes. Or the equivalent of.

As "desirable" as a Caddy, but a hundred times rarer. Ker-ching!
