a very cheap Vel Satis....fsh, manual, with 2,2 dci, 86k miles, fsh. Are this lumps as epically shite as the tinternet would have you believe?

it's more likely to be electrical spazmodics that take it out than the engine but they're know for lunching their turbos. I think the 3.0 diesel has more problems.

if it's cheap enough why not they're big comfy cars.

Everyone said I was daft for buying an Avantime and it was brilliant and never let me down whe I was using it for a 2000 mile a month commute. Keith Adams has just driven it to Spain and back!. It was a petrol though.

The 2.2dci is a complete and utter nightmare and can easily lead to financial ruin. You would be crazy not to consider it, get it bought!!

Probably a better bet than my 3.0 DCi.  They do occasionally om nom nom their turbos, but they don't have the cooling issues that the 3-litre does.  Manual gearbox is always a plus on a Renner too, as long as the clutch hydraulics don't go south.  How cheap are we talking?

Would the rarity* of the Del Tardis make it an exceedingly good breaker if* it goes terminal? Surely there must be a throbbing Quo Vadis 'scene'....?

Apparently the trick 4 keeping Renault diseasels from exploding is to run the oil level just above min and nowhere near max.

Also, fully sympathetic oil is less combustible.

TRUE OR FALSE??

Has it been on the island all it's life? Or are you back on the mainland now?

Anyway I would be very tempted despite have a 100% surplus of cars for the two of us. Mystic Meg says she can see one of these in my future when Leo is in alignment with Renault.

Think it's ex UK reg, and most are "motorway " miles...going to have a look tomorrow...................WCPGW etc etc

I recon a grand is the max you'd want to spend on one of these. If it starts throwing up injector faults or pics up any electrical gremlins you can't live with then forget it it'll have auto sparks running for the hills .

I really fancy one of these, just for the rather lovely inlaid wood on the dash.

A grand isn't cheap enough for me to be tempted by one of these, try halving it and I'd start to consider it ... Maybe I'm pessimistic, but to me there's a chance that one malfunction on these could send it to the bridge.

HMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm.........p'raps not.....was distinctly underwhelmed. FSH was extremely suspicious, no stamps, just hand written stuff in the relevant boxes, no invoices, and no evidence of cambelt change. Drove well, everything worked, but front wheel bearing were starting to hum. Was distinctly underwhelmed by the interior as well, distinct lack of "quality " feel...and a distinct lack of Gallic flair. Cloth seats were comfy enough, but just dull. All in all, a bit "meh"........................

^^^ A shonky car in crap condition with a dodgy history and incipient defects.

Surely that ticks every box?
