Renault's 1950's crossover, the Colorale, available in 2 and 4 WD in the modern fashion. attachicon.gifVillemanoche-FR-89-Rassemblement_2015_des_véhicules_anciens-véhicules_exposés-21.jpg

I think I've saw one in France years ago but didn't know what it was- a robust offering for the 'colonial' market. It's also not much of a looker, so they got the essentials right for what has become a popular niche.

About 10 years ago Renault had a whole channel on The Sky box showing 24 hrs of adverts and promotional films that nobody would be sad enough to watch.

Well I say nobody...

There was an hour long film featuring 2 girls driving one of these around France. They slept in iIt and helped farmers with harvesting, towed a caravan, took Nuns to church, even entered some sort of rally or autotest. It was brilliant, I think they ended up in Paris meeting their parents or summat, proper cross over lifestyle shit from the 50's.

Renault Fuego GTA, basically a 21ised Fuego, unfortunately only the Argentinians got them.attachicon.gifimage.jpeg

Sorry, that front end still looks like a Fuego, just with clear indicators and painted wings to me. Oh wait.....

Yep. Its still a Fuego from what I can see...

The Chilean film on the other night ("No") had some nice 70's and 80s stuff including a Fuego for the main character. (It was referred to as a sports car perhaps to demonstrate how oppressive the regime was)

It's not a looker

Aston-Martin-Atom-Factory-Prototype-Conc

That looks like one of silhouette things from the We Buy Any Car ads.

My word, they are MUCH worse than I thought from the other thread. You really must get one now!

For that price...WCPGW?

Has anyone ever seen an Aston Martin Cygnet or did they never get made?

Yup, me and Tayne saw one on the way home from the pub back in November.

It's a terrible photo, but that's a good thing in this case.

Yeah i have in Harrogate,a couple of years ago.Driven by a very well dressed early 60's lady.

I used to see a red one parked about Edinburgh back in 2013 - 15 when I was there for college.

Say what you want about them, I totally would have one.

Every time I look at e-bay I find a model that never existed but some half-wit has invented to make his worthless rot box a "rare classic".

Yeah, and now BMW / Audi / Mercedes are using that as a business model.

I posted this in the "News 24" and said I'd post it here...

The Xuzhou Suding four-door electric tricycle...

That driving position arrangement hurts my spine just looking at it. Is it one of those where driving is a team effort, perhaps? One person on pedal, one on steering and a back seat passenger for changing gears.

There's one round here, of all places.  I think it's owned by the wife of a local property developer* who used to run real Astons before a difference of opinion with HMRC a year or three back.

Allegedly.

Well you've all done better than me on the Cygnets as I've seen exactly 0!

I think it's good that they made something so wired, makes me hope they'll do it again but this time a DBnumber pickup.

That Chinese tricycle truck thing is hilarious. It's like a more sophisticated* version of Six-cylinder's Tiddly Truck.

In other news: the Volvo 264 TE, a factory-built seven-seat limousine or a Scottish MPV. Glass's Guide says this was sold here in 1978/79 only.

Apologies in advance, I think I may have won.

It is a Chatenet Barooder WX.

WHOOO

Apologies for the picture quality, it was taken from the back seat of a Discovery with a dirty windscreen at 30mph after a beer, in Innsbruck!!

Best of all, check out how sparse the Wiki page is!

Not just a car, a whole new fuel. I didn't know you could actually but Hydrogen cars or that there were fuel stations.

During the Olympics , BMW had some Hydrogen 7 Series being used for top VIPs. I spoke to one of the chauffeurs and and apparently they had to be taken back to Bracknell on a transporter every night for refuelling.

Anyone ever seen a Hydrogen station, saw this taxi at Heathrow.

It's not weird, it was done for CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) regulations in the US.

I reckon if they had charged £20-25k (MINI money) for the £10k Toyota with a nice interior and paint they would have sold more than a handful.

That's what AM claimed, in reality they don't sell enough cars to have to abide by those regulations. Hence why Ferrari or Lamborghini have never done the same. It was purely for marketing reasons.

Driving a bomb on wheels.

I think they store the hydrogen in something a bit more substantial than a giant balloon though. :D

Hydrogen is being pushed by big oil as the fuel of the future, they make lots of claims about zero tail pipe emissions and fast refuelling.

The reality is that 90% of commercial hydrogen is steam reformed out of natural gas (requiring huge amounts of energy and giving out massive carbon emissions), creating the infrastructure to move and use it will cost billions and the fuelling stations struggle to fill more than 6 cars a day.

I saw what looked like a Vauxhall Calibra or possibly an Astra Coupe today (general Calibra-like lines but more of an Astra Coupe bonnet, I only saw it from the front quarter), except it had a Hyundai badge on the bonnet... an Internet search has not revealed any likely candidates.

Any guesses?

Posted

Nope, it really looked like a Calibra or possibly an Astra Coupe... I was convinced it was one until I saw the bonnet & badge.

I was passed by a Cadillac CTS estate earlier. New one on me.

You reminded me - saw an unusual pick-up at Pitsford reservoir near Northampton on Saturday.  It came in to the car park as a convertible, making glorious subdued V8 noises.  We drove past it on the way out and it was a hardtop and saw 'Chevrolet' on the front.  It was black and silver.  The internet says it was a Chevrolet SSR.  It certainly made an impression!
