What about early Volvo 850 T5's? Especially unmolested estates?

Corsa B could go the way of the nova - when was the last time you seen a clean one?

Nice ones are still available for £1000 or less. Surely they can't stay this way...

Sprints £6k upwards. 1850s £2.5k typically but lots of 'retro' appeal

For the mk1 mondeos, I reckon only the 4x4, citrine (remember those?) and maybe the si

They were very cool!

Too right about the X1/9. Would struggle to pay £2.5 for a Dolly, when you can find a fwd 1300 for way less - better built and a better car. Once went out with the daughter of the chap who 'rear wheel drived' the 1300 into the Dolomote. She never forgave me when I told her the conversion rendered the car "a load of old BL bollocks". Whoops,

I think if there's hardly any of the cars left in the country, they will be more expensive.

In my experience it's not as simple as that.  20 years ago I had a VW 412 estate, I think there were only a few hundred left at the time.  Bought for £500, sold 2 years later for £300.  The Peerless GT was much cheaper to buy than the more common TR3 it was based on, and even the Tatras I had weren't too expensive and their numbers were barely double figures.

Of course all their values have shot up since I sold them, that happens a lot.  Look for the Porsche 924 increasing as I've sold mine, Suzuki Whizzkids are a lot more expensive since I sold mine too.

How about the early Fiat Cinquecento they are bound to shoot up in value. Probably about a fortnight after I sell mine for bridge money.

Mk6 escorts especially in gti, si and rs2000 trim, ford cougar, corsa b,

Not sure about Cougars. I've got one, and like it a lot, but they're not exactly what you could call a 'good' car. Even with OSF tax, I can't see them being worth megabucks.

Unless there ends up being about three dozen left.

I'm amazed the last of the Escorts (Mk6?) sporty versions, esp the RS2000 but also the GTi & Mexico versions seem to have little interest/following. I'd buy an RS2000 if I had the room to keep it.

Series 2 and 3 land rovers are still quite cheap and might follow the S1 price boom.

Early LR 90s?

Have mx5s started going up?

Has anyone mentioned fast foci?

If p1800 are so pricey, maybe the 480 follow suit. Available for bridge money.

80's Saab 900 Turbo 16. I used to buy them for a few hundred quid. Now several K for a good one...

I'd like MX5 prices to go up 'cos I've got one, but I don't think it'll happen to any serious degree.  Mazda continue to build them to pretty much the same recipe, so there's going to be no shortage of cheap used roadsters for the foreseeable future.

I don't think the XJ-S is going anywhere either.  It's been around nearly 40 years already - the E-Type was commanding serious money after 25 years.

Series III Land Rovers are already going up in price, and all LR 90s are expensive.

Series 1 and 2 aggros are seriously on the rise, by virtue of rose tinted 70s nostalgia

An early, original, petrol 3 door Discovery is a pretty safe bet I reckon. With the proper Conran interior and the wacky compass decals in good nick of course. 3 door just looks nicer, neater, (as always) and there is no rear seat room anyway.

Discovery is almost as much of a brand now as Range Rover but most of these will have been ruined by mud lovers or rust or LPG misers.

The price of these must surely be due to go skyward any time soon, in fact you can guarantee the time it will will be 10 days after I sell mine and get a nice 2003 Berlingo Multispace.

Yep, early Discos are lovely - complete with original side decals.

Yes I suppose I would agree re the 205.  106 GTi is currently a flippin' bargain, but it's very difficult finding an un-chavved one..

The vast majority of these are still "rust buckets" in Joe Public's eyes

The prices for the good, original cars are starting to creep up to the 2k mark

Get a tidy 4x4 and stick it away somewhere......

I keep reading about Sierra values going up, but I have had one for sale for years now and had almost no interest.  I think the numbers of bog standard Mk1 Sierra are already so low that there aren't enough to be a cult - to have a car cult or scene, you need a few cars.

I recon the series 1 McRae And Richard burns imprezas are going to be the mexicos and rs2000s of 10 years time .

I was thinking about these the other day (weird because I'm not a small car person) and thought that these should be more sought after than they are.

Surely they're no longer bargains though?

You can spend over 20k on a shit Golf for 20k. Just saying.

According to the other Quentin on the front page of this months Classic Car, we've missed a couple of obvious contenders that we should all jump on before they're too expensive.post-17414-0-17638600-1414061639_thumb.jpg

The man is a genius ,with his eye for the potential of cars that the rest of us would never imagine would ever be worth anything.

They will go up. I remember only 2 or 3 years ago they were going for a couple of hundred. Now try buying a 2 door Mexico.

Sadly most are rotten and have been `customised` to death.  I`d take one. The blue oval have made some right donkeys over the years but the `working mans hero` always seems to be worth more when they are even shittier than they were when they were new. :?

Any decent 3 door Cosworth now is `name your price`. Mk2 Escorts are Ferrari money. Even an old 2.8 Capri is getting silly money and most of them are patchwork quilt specials.

`Hang on, I have to change a wheel. Oh fuck, my jack has went through the chassis leg!`

Here`s my old bus. I couldn`t afford one now.
