Oh no, not another W124. Lord Sterling's Benz: Will he fix it or will he fix a Rover?

Cheers lads, sounds like most of you are thinking the same way I am.

Does the Merc still run and drive safely? If so take it back, take the £900 and you have a runner while you decide if you fix it or bridge it. Either way you should be quids in. Even if you get another merc having the other for spares would be handy, but again it comes down to storage space.

The Merc does indeed still run/drive just as sweetly as it did before accident, in fact I used it to move my bed from Jeremy_Kyle Avenue, Birminghamshireton to Chez_Mo @ Market Town_shire and recently to Evesham to transport some wooden furniture.

Yes, I reckon a jig of the B-pillar and a couple of doors will see it useable again. The assessor from my insurance was making positive noises about me keeping it and repairing it.

What I fear is, if I get rid German_tank and start doing an impression of Alan Partridge again, I will find it hard to get back into Mercs as I always seem to be priced out of other interesting cars.

I've also made enquiries about new site for Rovers. Whether its 3 or 4 cars the price is the same, I'm not being charged per car, just a standard rate.

Because the Merc is still running fine, I would go the cash and car route, and fix it at your leisure. Good luck.

Spend £6.66 on your lucky number.

Win.

Drive round like a boss in Mitsubishi. throw faeces at insurance industry.

FTFY

Mo will have cash in his pocket next time we go to Cannock if the insurance company settle.

And you reckon he won't buy a car?

ROFL, as kids said 10 years ago.

Secondhand doors from Dronsfield and a few hundred quid to local accident repair place to pull it straight.

I linked to a cheap E-class, and I've seen a few others. Spend the money on a cheap S124, move all the recent bits over, sell the other bits (I might buy some if they're good for my C124), weigh in what's left - get a car which hasn't been pulled back into shape etc.

The offer of storing the car remains open, though with another car incoming I'm not sure how long for (depends on what else I can get rid of in the meantime).

Hell, if finances can be shaky, you could do worse than seeking out a mid '90s W202 C180. They're not fast, but the ones that have survived aren't bad for rust and they're reasonably economical and easy/cheap to maintain, and often go for £500 or thereabouts.

Nice! Tim - I'll keep you in mind, I think I've still got your number here. Only thing I'm afraid of is if the doors will fit back onto newly pressed out the pillar. I'll shall try and get the new doors before I come up though.

RichardK - Thank you or the offer, I really appreciate it, I'm sorry I'd not been in contact, I'd many, many other personal things to sort out, as always though, I will keep you in mind.

One thing does concern me - Being paid before Cannock Auction time, which is very likely...

I would take it back then, that was you have a car you know the history of and can fix when the time/cash allows. Everyone's a winner.

Don't worry. You'll be among friends who will* prevent* you from doing anything stupid.

Has anyone bought from Cannock yet?

I know I came close when a TD5 Disco went for £1400ish.....

You should give all your money to a nominated and trusted autoshite member. We'll then create a thread on the forum you're locked out of and between us we'll source and buy you a "mystery car" using the power of the internet and have it delivered to your house.

Think of the fun (for us).

Superb. A virtual CPC so to say, with a bit of 'sorry, we went a bit over budget' at the end for maximum hilarity.

Sorry we spent 7 grand on a Lamborghini tractor for you. You owe us £6000

If you have 900 notes in your pocket and your not gonna fix one of the 800s, what's the point in keeping them?

All its doing is costing you cash to store cars your not going to fix even when you have money you could spend on them

This is a great idea.  You can do this for me next time I 'need' a new car if you like.

No Lamborghinis though.  Posh tosh.

Short MOT, but...

Oil leak is probably easily sorted. Ortho seats! My E-class doesn't have ortho seats and they're really shit, even compared to the concrete MB-Tex ones in my first 200TE. Ortho seats are great. I'd almost buy that thing just to sit in it.
