This weekend, Wetherby Racecourse plays host to The Micro Maniacs Club and their national rally.  I was out on the pushbike today and remembered it was on, so here are some photos - apparently there are a load more, but they had just gone out on a run!

Its the Otley Vitange Festival this weekend too but might head to this as did not get a ticket to show the Visa at Otley (was meant to be going away but cancelled at the last minute by which time tickets had sold out).

 

Will let you know if we are heading up that way. Is it open to the public? Is there stuff on on Saturday too do you know or are they all out and about?

I went to this event a couple of years ago somewhere more south and it was fascinating.

It was interesting, not sure if the fair lady barefoot will be up for it with the short notice though...

As I wandered into Morrison's for tonight's tea, I saw 3 Bond Bugs leaving in convoy - class!  Still, I had to walk the dog after tea (and after Dr Who) so wandered up in the dark as it's on the usual dog walk anyway - had a good chin-wag with the Bug club, there's 8 of them at the rally, and took some shit photos in the dark.  Here are the least worst!

 

First up is a Cursor, with tiny trailer wheels and a suitably tiny engine.

 

Then this sexy beast, the name of which escapes me at the moment:

Then a BMW and a Bond, the photograph of which is particularly shonky...

 

The dog (yes, he's got a hi-viz jacket...) was NOT impressed:

I went to a microcar meet up a fair few years ago. I was 'invited' by a 126 acquaintance, as they are under 700cc...I think that is the threshold for microcar status...when it came down to it my 126 was immobile for the meet. I went in my Panda 750 (it's a 769cc really ) instead and was welcomed with open arms even though I was 69cc over the limit...Great event.

That's the fellow! Well remembered that man! I was thinking that it is a tad different from the later sports car of a similar name.

 

Vin's experience seems to be par for the course, everyone I've spoken to here seems friendly and welcoming.

The BMW is actually a heinkel next to a bond mk F,the blue and white is a Nobel 200,then you have a Frisky ,Reliant fox camper and autobianchi this isn't actually a maniacs rally,its the national microcar rally,the maniacs being the hosts. I didn't go to that many as many of the micro Nazis hate reliants and don't like them turning up (not proper micros) I just said find me someone who drove 200 miles here in a Bond! Lol

Right-oh, let's see some more microshite.  It was fascinating watching the early morning (up here walking the dog again...) as things got moved around, and cars were started.

They're looking at these, perhaps mesmerised by the unerring talents of the Bond team to manufacture microcars that are utterly, astonishingly, fuck-off ugly.

Wonderful. I've been to a couple of microcar rallies. Once in the 2CV, which felt like a giant (but still counts as a microcar on engine size). Lovely, eccentric people and insane vehicles. Most of them are utterly horrendous to even sit in with the engine running, let alone drive. Scootacars are properly insane. The 2CV seems quite refined and stable by comparison. I really do doff my cap to these people, especially the few who actually drive to the meets.
