Is that Junkman's possessed one?

Mrs Skizzer spotted a P6 on the M4 the other day, by the way, and now wants one. It was all the same colour though, rather boringly.

It was red and brown before...?!

Yeah, now my garden is.

Is that Junkman's possessed one?

No, it's Mr Conelrad's unpossessed one. Junkman is just pretending to be Miss Centrefold holding sexy MoT Cert.

★★ UPDATE Ã¢Ëœâ€¦Ã¢Ëœâ€¦

It was red and brown before...?!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it's different colours now. It's yellow and blue instead of brown and red. Here is what it looks like now.

... and here is the long overdue petrol station shot. The last time this car was in a petrol station, fuel cost 36p per litre!

So I finally got to drive the thing. While I'm sure this will later be referred to as 'the honeymoon period', it feels like all the hassle has been worthwhile. The drive is marvellous. The sound is wonderful, and the drive is so unlike anything I've owned before. But then, before this my largest engine was a 1468c 4-pot...

Look how it blends in seamlessly with modern traffic.

Believe it or not, it needs a little work. The interior needs a quick clean, for a start.

And as lovely as the push button Motorola MW/LW radio is, an incident today might have doomed it. It would pick up only two stations - cricket, or golf. What's the only thing worse than televised golf? That's right, RADIO GOLF. Sorry, Motorola - you poisoned the air in my car with SPORTS

It's quite hard (not to mention pointless) to pick my favourite car on here at the moment, but this is definitely on the shortlist.

Not sure if you jetwashed the brown off to reveal a beige car or if you changed all the panels because you can on a P6.

Hope it's been worth the wait and considerable effort because it looks about about seven shades of bloody brilliant.

Good work! Some how I missed the MoT success but must feel great. Nothing like a new mot to reawaken the love.

I think only receiving golf and cricket on the radio is very appropriate too.........that car will be set to reject any music newer than itself!

Not quite all - the roof comes off too.

That Rover is definitely a 2016 calendar shot.

This car is hot stuff!

Do you or any P6 owners need a NOS passenger side outside sill? One has just appeared on my local FB selling group. It's £30 and postage will probably not be much via P4D.

It fucking vapour locked. I'm sat here like a lemon being gawped at by passing traffic waiting for this fucking thing to cool down because waiting 30 seconds at a traffic light made it melt down.

Fuck!

Fucking 35 mile honeymoon period is over then.

Still a beautiful car to look at, even when broken. Could be worse.

It seems wrong to 'like' that photo although it is a pretty thing to have sat at the side of the road   Hope it restarts OK once it's cooled off!

Just got home. It took about 45 minutes to cool down enough to restart. That gave the traffic time to disperse too. I only took that route to avoid the roadworks, which would have been a considerably worse place to conk out!

So now we know, the temp gauge doesn't work (read just below normal) and, yes, the car most definitely is susceptible to vapour lock. It'll get an electric pump as soon as.

It must be a warm Summer in the Land of Eng.

There was a very nice cooling breeze against the back of the car. The engine was completely shielded from it.

Is there a fuel return as standard? I fitted one on the Stellar, to (hopefully!) avoid this, but time will tell whether it works...

Posted

Ah, so hopefully an electric pump will flow more at idle than the mechanical pump does. I remember reading somewhere that modern fuel is more volatile than it used to be, but I guess that older cars didn't experience so much traffic when they were new!

This pump is highly recommended on P6 forum . Need to fit one myself but only vapour locked twice in 4 years. Bloody queues to get out of car shows !!

Other than people telling you it was in wrong place  :D

This is mine:

Haven't had a problem ever.

I was just going to do such a shitty job on the wiring that an impact would shake all my connections loose.

Today it developed severe hesitation. The vacuum advance unit has packed up; you can suck/blow air through it with no resistance, and of course, the distributor baseplate doesn't move. That said, the baseplate was so stiff I couldn't move it without a screwdriver. So while that vac unit was probably on the verge of going pop anyway, that couldn't have helped.

Not sure what I really want to do with that terminally furred-up senile OAP forum, but a metric shitload of German 88mm flak guns left over from the war and on display here in France give me a rough idea. What a bunch of completely useless tossers suffering from Alzheimers. About as helpful as a hole in the head.
