Meant to ask RMX - are you keeping the original colour scheme and wheels?

That looks like a bullet well bitten there!  I'm really looking forward to the "completed" pics, and as for the America trip... what a winner!

That looks incredible.

And as for driving Coast to Coast USA in a Dacia Shifter Pickup, well thats living the dream right there.

Actually... we're planning a New England trip  almost as-we-speak, to take place in September.  Shite meet-up, you think?  What a thread that would be!  (No, I'm not taking a car with me, but I might take a few hand tools in case I come across any Sables in the breakers.....)

Yes the paint will be a similar colour, maybe a tad darker and the wheels will be completely refurbished. The stickers on the side will be replaced too.......it will be as original as possible. :-)

Few more pics for you all, engine bits, new doors, new chassis leg......etc

Loads of work left to do, I am told with a bit of luck it should be ready for paint by end of this month, and the engine should be completely done by end of this week.

The dashboard is getting new vinyl, seats are getting re-upholstered etc too (pics should land soon)

Enjoy ;-)

I think FOAD needs this guy Danut's number.

I think we all do.  That's amazing stuff and heartening to see that someone wants to do work to a decent standard on a rare and not particularly valuable little car.  Excellent heartening images displayed above.

He's very meticulous to say the least. Whilst visiting him and the Shifter a few weeks back he showed me around his own collection of Dacia's, about 6 or 7 Dacia's and Renault 12 which he has owned for a number of years and each and every one more pristine than the previous one.............UNTIL, he opened the last garage and in there is a Dacia with chassis number 0002 - that's right the second EVER Dacia to be produced at the factory. Dacia with chassis number 0001 has long been scrapped and he is currently around 70% through restoring it, it is IMMACULATE.

I have some pictures, will try and get them on at some point.

He's an R12 expert, Dacia's are not his favourite but he agrees this particular one is rather special and is worth saving, and doing right.

excellent, this little dacia has definately found the right home, hats off to your resto man

Engine has been completely rebuilt, now looking at different shades of red, going to paint in about 2 weeks time tops.

Entire electrical system has been completely rebuilt / refurbished too. New glass headlights aquired rather than the plastic ones I got.

UNBELIEVABLE JEFF!!

Posted

It's safe to say, I've blown the freaking budget by miles however the body was in much much worse condition than initially anticipated and the welding alone exceeded anyone's expectations but since it was being done, thought might aswell get it ALL done properly so with a bit of luck, there should be no nasty surprises for the next 7 to 10 years in terms of major rust.

I'm flying out in May, when it should be all completed and driving. ;-)

Hang on, it was only a few weeks ago that was looking like death warmed up, and now it's nearly ready for paint with a finished engine? Wow.

Posted

Gerat work man. Those new chassis legs are interesting, do all renner 12's have those or are they part of Dacias RWD pick-up 'conversion'?

Posted

Very impressive, looking forward to seeing this finished!

Posted

I believe those are specific to Pick up's only

It still looks like death warmed up, just a less rusty version of it :)))

Posted

It's also going to have 4no factory spot lights on the roll bar once fitted - this particular one didn't have them originally it seems but since they are factory made and it was a factory option, I thought it wouldn't harm it.

The front half looks like that on the 12 if I recall - pickup seems to differ aft of the front footwells.

EDIT: I've just remembered - the front legs taper down into the floor pan just ahead of the rear footwells on the 12.

In fact - the 12 in the photo below is probably the same restoration that inspired your choice of specialist RMX?

That's right, I had the opportunity to be driven and examine the White R12 for a about a day.......and seeing the passion that went into that car made me chose this particular guy to restore the Shifterossa. Although me choosing the right person......it wasn't that straight forward as he gets approached by ALOT of people to take on ALOT of projects but in the end he took a high level of interest in the car and the rest is history.

The dashboard should be nearly finished too, so pics of that will be posted as soon as I receive them.

Amazing. This car couldn't have ended up in better hands.

Thank you, appreciate it.

To be honest I'm really looking forward to the show it should take part in, in May, but then I can't wait to get it back and like I said, it needs to make an appearance at an autoshite event too. It's going to Le Mans this year, so it will be on the road quite a bit :-)

I'm surprised by the amount of people that want to buy it of me, there's a guy in Germany who isn't giving up it seems, maybe i should throw a silly number at him to put him off ha ha

Red paint and the underside should be finished. The diff and springs etc will be black as per when it left the factory ;-)
