Blimey that is an early MK2 Golf!

Probably stolen because they are pretty easy to nick, I don't think these base MK2's are worth an awful lot, are they?

Hopefully so, a joyride and dumped is probably the best outcome.

A lot of depressing theft news on AS lately.

Hope it's recovered in saveable condition.

It'll have been nicked because nobody looks twice at a Golf with a blow-over, and there's enough projects out there to easily get a new identity.

Also, you can open the doors and start them with a chip fork.

Stolen for the Tarantulas maybe? Could've been mistaken for a GTI if someone was being thick.

There is a very uncomfortable and special section in hell for car and tool thieves.

I reckon joyriders, too, or possibly stolen for scrap. It's got too many doors for it to be of interest to any serious field full of the same looking 'individual' cars knobheads.

Posted

Aye, joyriders. Sometimes thieves just walk around looking for an older car just so they don't have to walk home.

Check locally for burglaries too, burglars often look for shite old cars to nick to haul their ill gotten gains, when we had a clapped out Uno, that had the lock screwdrivered, but someone must have disturbed em, turned out a house a few doors down had been done over, and another old banger was nicked from just down the road

Sadly easy to nick...

There's been a lot of posts about cars being stolen etc recently. I've also had most if my tools etc nicked.

I'm seriously considering saving up for a disc lock for each of my cars. They are hugely expensive but i remember when my 205 gti got nicked. It was the one night my wife forgot to put the lock on the car after borrowing it. I got to drive the car twice before it was stolen.

I got mine with two keys for a Fiver on ebay.

Second hand obv. But that makes no difference. Postage is high as they weigh a ton, but find one (or ten) local and youre laughing.

Amazingly it has been found and collected.

Good news. My car is back. I have fitted the Allegro battery and driven it back from the thief's house under police escort. No damage to locks or steering. Amazingly tank still full of petrol. Back plate painted over to stop ANPR. That caused the police to check database. Need to make it secure before going back to bed. That's a really bad photo by the way.

That's great news, I wonder what the thiefs intentions were? Seems a bit mad painting over the number plate, that's just like putting a big sign on the back saying NICK ME.

Good that innit, paint over the number plate then drive home and park it outside your house, obv a bright spark that one.

Great to see it returned to the owner in one piece but, Christ, they must have been the world's stupidest thieves. Or have we reached the point where they care so little about being collared the just don't give two shits about even hiding anymore?

I think it's the latter.

In a time, when someone gifted enough to nick a car without doing any damage to it, doesn't have a chance to make a decent living,

what does he have to lose? And what punishment awaits him?

I know what you mean. I often think that when you hear about people stealing cars with laptops...why the hell don't you train as a technician where your skill won't get you into trouble and wreck people's week/month/year?

Glad it's back though!

If I was one of them y00fs, what with a university degree and thus 50k in debts already,

and not a chance in hell for a job this side of China, I'd be a career criminal myself.

The amount of rigmarole I have to go through just to earn a tenner which will evaporate overnight does sometimes make it tempting to lob a brick through a window of a jeweler's.

That said I never did uni. I doubt I'd be better off for it.

Everyone loves a happy ending.

Apart from the Coen Brothers.

No damage to locks and parked outside the 'thiefs' house.

Anyone else think there might more to this than a straightforward stolen car?

First time I've ever heard of the owner getting taken to the suspects home to collect and drive home too. Surely the normal procedure is to recover the car,do forensic checks and then charge the victim for the recovery and storage ?

Sounds like a storyline from Heartbeat to me. But then I'm a cynical old bastard.
