Ugly or not ugly?

That is the question.

And that the fuck is what?

Agree in the Multiargh, I always remember my dad telling me how practicle and roomy they were. Yeah, especially if there's 6 of you and you're all wearing enormous hats...

Now sure what the Belmont's doing there, maybe I just got used to them...

May I add

2011_09_Nissan-Juke-Kuro.jpg

to the list?

I quite like the Juke. I've had one for a few days.

It's different. They're delivering me a new hire car this morning and it'll probably be a case of I'll look at it, and have to look at the badge on the keys to confirm what it is.

Belmonts were ugly. At the end of the 90's in Tuebrook car auction,Mk2 Astras were 2 grand. Belmonts were 500. Buy Belmont monday, sell in Lpool Echo on Thurs for 1000. had to be a reason for it.....Ugliness methinks

Urgh! Looks somewhere between the Rodius and the Juke, evil offspring of?

You do have to wonder what some American car stylists* are smoking sometimes. They just seemed to go from the sublime to the ridiculous in the space of a decade.

My vote goes to the Jeep Compass 'Rallye' - those arches!

1971 Fiat ESV 1500 (Experimental Safety Vehicle) - sort of a cross between a 126 and an 850...

There were others...

The 2000 concept

and the 2300 concept...

Those Fiat ESVs were pointers to the future: wilful ugliness, both ends of the car single blobs of sacrificial plastics - and all undone by pillars so wide you can't see round them...

I think the Belmont looks a lot better than the Astra.

So did the Echo readers...

I like the Multipla despite / because of it's appearance. It isn't beautiful but it does look like good design. Some of the details are lovely. I prefer Multiplas with the grey bumpers.post-17481-0-94070600-1405763767_thumb.jpg

I can't be doing with the "facelifted" one though. A nasty botoxed compromise.

Square ugly (Mk 4 Zodiac) is better than fat round blobby ugly (lookin' at yo, Scorpio).   I don't understand the idiom in which anything since 1980 has been designed so cannot comment on those.

I want an Aztec ... If I do get one I'm pretty sure I'll hate it, but I still want one.

I look at the Nissan Juke and want to vomit, its just plain ugly... ;)

I mean WTF is a crossover? I guess its some thing that looks like off-road but does not work off-road, just in car parks?

Everyone I have seen is driven by an old fart too, its the new Rover 25.....

I can't believe I'm defending the Bugeye Scorp, but Ford did make the later ones a little more palletable to Western eyes( judging by the shit the Koreans and Chinese made around this time, they loved it as it was)

Certain cars available as hatchbacks look correct but the version with a boot looks like a botch job

Focus/mondeo spring to mind

The train world hardly escaped either. This was the prototype HST, its derivative still comprising the majority of the East Coast, Midland and Great Western main line's fleets.

I went on one these in Belgium once - WTF?

I can pick out a few details I really like on the 2002, but put it together as a whole and it just looks gawky and awkward. They're a car I never really understood the appeal of.

I wonder if that's why seemingly everyone modifies them?

I suppose this just confirms the eye of the beholder thing, but I followed a 2008 Focus saloon yesterday and thought it looked good.post-17414-0-21743600-1405768317_thumb.jpg

Funnily enough I was thinking along the same lines this morning, a couple of the people in my canoe club have these, they're utterly unkillable (and one of them, a mechanic no less, has tried), go well and although I realise that to most people they're goppingly hideous, I rather like them, especially the estate.

I wouldn't mind a late Scorpio either.  I'd rather have something interestingly ugly than a bland grey box that gets lost in car parks.
