Spiny, there were never many Citroens sold in this country until recently, but that has changed in recent years. BX's were always a fairly rare sight here .I was thinking today while following jon in his AX GT that we would have been a very rare combo on the road at anytime. I have no real idea of numbers sold though.

L13, designed towards the end of the "designed with a ruler" days so curves were coming back in. I think these were a compromise outcome. That's my story, I could by very wrong though!

DS driver, The car has always been dealer serviced. LHM tank and the spheres have 8/13 written on them so I assume that was the last date work was done. I will not be touching the system unless a Cit. fanatic says it is not riding as it should. I will be joining the club to get just that sort of advice. And hello again, it was a pleasure to meet you in UK.

Absolutely cracking that. Thank goodness the kiwis don't salt the roads, chod like this lasts ages

My two heaps were absolutely knackered but rust free when I lived there

Brilliant purchasing skills, that sounds like a much better example than the five year old 14RE I ran in the early 90s.

Love the moody autumn leaf pics.

Great stuff. Quite a few NZ and Aussie BX folk on bxclub.co.uk

Sounds like new spheres may be in order. A nice riding BX isn't a million miles away from a CX, just a bit less floaty. Usual drill if you're getting the washer bottles out is to clean out all the crud beneath them. Common rot spot.

Lovely: Auto suits Hydraulic Citroens perfectly.

Loving the pics. of that old Audi 80, never seen a two door or a single headlight grille together with the massive "federal" aluminium bumpers before!

Top work. As ever. One thing though, not trying to piss on your chips... But the rear wheel camber looks well neg. Might be worth a look at the rear arm pivot bearings..

AX GT? Too common:

I'll admit it may have been hard to read the badge at times ;-)

Some good and appreciated comments there lads.

Not using salt is a very good idea, it allows a lot of knackered but rust free stuff to be driven.

Dolly , hello again, You pretty well described this car's ride. As I have never even ridden in a Citroen before it may be the legendary ride versus the reality ride. And the water bottle I have removed had only 2 leaves and 1 rat bait under it, otherwise like new there.

Albert, I am sure the ride is better than a landrover! but will look at the camber  today.

That Audi is wearing plates issued about 1977/8 so must have been in a salty part of USA previously.

My bumblest apology jon. It looks pristine in that photo too.  I said you suddenly disappeared at high speed !

Another day of Citroen ownership, and got the windscreen washer cobbled up to work. I will have to work out why water will not go through to the wiper arm from the pump. I found a one-way valve whish was full of slime but something else is wrong. Also cleaned out the grot traps below both washer bottles and they are now shiny white witn no sign of trouble arising.

Popped in to the post office to change ownership, that took about 2 minutes. The only doc I needed was my licence to prove i.d. just fill ouy a simple form with car details (make, model, year and plate no)plus my name and address . Girl at the counter brings the plate up on her screen, does the change, hands over a receipt takes $9.00 (4.50 pounds) and I go.

The DVLA could learn a thing or two.

Nice car you have there.

Yes i have recent experience of DVLA !

Sadly, corrosion in the wiper spindle can be an issue. You may be able to clear it with something long and solid - a small drill bit perhaps. Not too much trouble to remove the entire mechanism but I'm not sure where you'd find another. This is a fault I had on The Green Tiger, hence the bodged up washer jet on the scuttle.

After a week of ownership I am getting used to Citroen. i was intrigued by the ride as mentioned earlier, however a read of a road test described the car exactly as i feel it rides, so now happy. Also a recent trip along an undulating but smooth-topped road gave the suspension a true test and the car behaved exactly as it should, suspension floating smoothly and giving a pleasant ride.

The stereo now has its full compliment of speakers (2). For those who care it is a pioneer KE-3070QR from 1989 and tape only. Interesting as it has handles to slide the unit out and take with you but but so impractical no-one would ever do it. Problem was just a connection at the speaker had fallen off. I'm glad I didn't throw away those old tapes now!

Windscreen washer is now cobbled together and working, I will likely follow dollywobblers fix of a jet on the scuttle for a permanent fix. However the rear wiper has ceased life along with the washer. Washer is just a hose repair next to the bottle, but wiper will need investigating as all fuses are ok.

The hydraulic pump belt has started to squeal a bit first thing in the morning as it wakes up the car, so that will need attention.

Other than that tale of woe It is a keeper. A good wash last weekend had it looking pretty well pristine too ! Now off to enjoy week 2.

The only progress this week is the rear wipe wash is all in working condition, only a switch that needs plenty of physical abuse to make it work to be done.

And a spot or 2

A pair of Mitsubishis at the supermarket, both about 1978

Great to see you snapped that Sigma - it lives across the road from our first house over here and I only saw it a few times, trundling down to the shops. The Lancer is a staff car and always parks in the same spot at the supermarket. The Corolla's fantastic but a shame to see it's had a bit of a bump at the back.

Not a report on progress as this mans BX needs nothing doing. Apart from an upcoming W.O.F (mot) next week.

I had had reports of a BX lurking about town so went to its home and banged on the door. It was answered by one of natures gentlemen, a retired mechanic. Yes the car was his, and is a Series 1 BX19 GT and he has owned it for many years. We chatted for an hour or two about the world and Citroens then had a wander around his cars.

1 the BX19 GT

2 An immaculate Visa , LHD and restored, has done 300,000+ miles and is on the untouched original engine.

3 Renault Espace, This recently carried a 2CV chassis on the roof for a 1000 km journey.

4 Another BX16 being repaired for a friend.

5 A Renault Megane with a f@$#ked auto gearbox (surprise!)

6 A Dyane Used occasionally -  restored by the local Lotus importer apparently!

7 NIRVANA   There are NO AMI's on this country, once again I am wrong , he has the estate version. It is to

be    restored next. very little rust and he has a number of NOS panels purchased locally from a wrecker. This is the only one I have seen in nearly seventy years of looking. Or at least since I first saw a photo of one.

And that was my Sunday.

No photos as I felt that to just appear with camera in hand may be unwelcome.

EDIT Ileft one out ! There is also an immaculate Triumph Toledo.

Glad you took the time to go round and say hello. I'd spotted the Ami parked up in his driveway on one of my occasional drive-bys. I saw his wanted advert on Trademe for an Ami and parts, as well as the for sale ad back when his Scenic worked. Did you mention our fleet? Maybe he'd like a day trip out fettling another Visa?!

Quick update. The BX passed its test with no advisories, that's me happy then.

What I thought was a Megane in the earlier post is actually a Renault 19 drophead, it was under a cover so I will claim I could not tell.

In addition, I have been told that thee are an additional 3 Ami's in the area, all saloons but not on the road.

Glad to hear it passed muster. Onwards and upwards then!
